I am not sure how much of this "announcement" can be taken literally. However, the usage of antonymous interceptor drones is clearly the "way ahead". These drones supposedly use radar to detect and track their targets. Due to the size of these interceptor drone millimeter wave radar is the only possible frequency range. That carries with it a set of problems. The targeted drones are also not great radar targets, as much of their structure is not radar reflective. This is in any case somewhat of a quibble. The important point is that interceptor drones are starting to be built "seriously". When such drones come equipped with effective multi-spectral sensors and capable onboard AI target recognition the "game" will indeed change. That day is coming. This announcement shows it will be fairly "soon", probably two years at most, possibly much less.
