Both correct, and Willie McCovey came the following year.
Who did the Giants get for Bill White? I probably should know this but I'm having a senior moment....
The Giants traded Bill White and Ray Jablonski for P Sam Jones (2.25 ERA the prior year) and minor league pitcher Don Choate. Jones went 21-15 for the Giants that year (led the NL in wins and ERA and finished 2nd in Cy Young voting) and 18-14 the next season, then 8-8. Jablonski was a backup. Choate pitched eight major league innings, but did have a 2.25 ERA.
Ah, yes, Toothpick Sam, aka Sad Sam. Jablonski never had a chance behind Davenport. That crop of rookies in '58 (Cepeda, Davenport, Felipe Alou, Willie Kirkland) was a pretty good one.
