Certainly, there have been times in U.S. military history when the U.S. had an opportunity to negotiate a decent exit from a conflict, but instead choose to fight, resulting in a worse end state along with more bloodshed along the way.  That is definitely a risk of continuing the fight against Iran.  I can imagine that the U.S. and Israel might never have more leverage to get a good deal than they have now.  Of course, the opposite also could be true.  This really is a difficult crossroads without an easy answer.  I don't envy the decisionmakers.
