Ha, I just read an article on who could be next in the Athletic, so I know the answer but  I’ll let someone else take a stab at it in case they know. It’s probably not cheating since I read the article before you asked the question, but still doesn’t feel quite right.

There are only two players within 750 Ks of 3000, which I think goes to show how pitching has changed in the last decade.  The article speculates that Kershaw may be the last to 3000 (as the answer to your question is 36 and a shade under 500 strikeouts away and the next closest guy is about to turn 35 and 750 strikeouts away).
