The Italian government might want to increase its military expenditures focused on its coast guard, not so much to deter Russia but to deter migrants coming across the Mediterranean Sea.

Some evidence the Italians are listening to you, or vise versa. This new class of ships is obviously aimed as an augmentation/improvement  for the two Dattilo class ships they already have. Those ships are 12 years old, so they are undoubtedly good for another 20 (at least).  How many of the new design they intend to build is unknown at this time. The number 6 has been bandied about, but that is like the administration's two weeks. The current contract is for one, and I can't find any evidence there are "options" for more.

Here is another innovator who seems to want to turn old style military procurement on its head.  Sure sounds like a good idea to me.  155mm guns capable of shooting out to a range of 96 miles. I can see a lot of the old style hardware producers bad mouthing his development, but it would sure seem to give small  more nimble players a chance at the big bucks.
