I've seen estimates of 1.1 million killed/wounded on each side.  Is there any prospect of seeing the toll slow down soon?

IMO, no. Putin is going to push the ground war all winter because the bad weather greatly hampers Ukrainian drone operations. Of course, it does the same for Russian drone operations, but since Russia is advancing (or attempting to) not being seen is critical. The Ukrainian defenses are almost entirely static, so reconnaissance is less important to the Russians.
