Net ranking is currently #42. In theory that would be an 11 seed in the tournament, but there are 31 auto qualifiers out of 68 teams; so right now we are definitely out. Beating Miami won’t help much (net #58), but we need to win to keep playing. I don’t think 2 wins will be enough. 3 wins might be enough, but ND and NCST definitely would be good wins (net #23 and #24). 4 wins is much better, adding likely Duke to the list (net #10). Obviously, 5 wins guarantees us a spot in the NCAAs.
31 auto qualifiers out of 68 total teams leaves 37 at-large spots. But many of the automatic qualifiers are in the top 37 teams so they don’t take up an extra slot. For example, last year Princeton got in as the final 11 seed with a NET rating of 46, which implies that there were 9 automatic qualifiers with a NET rating better than 46.
I think we need to beat Miami, mostly to avoid dropping in the NET rankings. After that, it will depend on how many upsets there are in conference tournaments and what other bubble teams do. A win against Notre Dame should be enough.
