While I think Coach Paye should be replaced, I think that’s only part of the problem.  In the NIL/transfer portal era, good players like Agara / Somfai want to start, be on a final four team, and get paid.  Benchwarmers also want to play on a championship team and they want significant minutes.   The vast majority of players won’t get these things and so they will transfer every year.  This transfer/implosion happens to a lot of teams now (eg Iowa State and Tennessee).  It’s just the mercenary nature of the game.  And Stanford will always lose that game because a lot of transfers don’t qualify and our process is so long and arduous.  I’m afraid the era of Stanford relevance in women’s basketball (and men’s basketball and football) is over.   We should just accept Ivy League status and relevance in country club sports.
