The issue is less the standards going in; as is oft mentioned Stanford (and Duke) could fill an entire class with qualified people they’ve rejected, so there is a lot of leeway there. Rather, it is the product coming out. If a substantial proportion of your team can’t even stay on track to graduate in six years and can’t leave the university in good academic standing, then what are you doing? Standards surely do change, but come on, if you can’t get a gentleman’s C in a minimum number of units to maintain academic progress, what are you even doing in the school.
