Lots of cardinal colored glasses out there. Yes, we looked good and better than I feared. Lots of positives as noted above. But predicting too much success after a home game against Hawaii is like picking the Giants to win 94 after a decent preseason this year.
A few areas of concern:
*Warren looked good, but made some bad decisions: missed a couple of wide open receivers, the grounding, the delay of game, not pushing for the chains and instead running out of bounds (think Andrew would have done that?).
*The line held up until the center went out. What will that loss mean and for how long.
*Turtling and/or the failure to keep the gas pedal to the floor. The offense really struggled for most of the second half. Really didn't like the two off tackle runs to put us in third and long in the fourth.
*Kicking game; was it a shank or a block. Looked like both. Extra points were okay. Not to give a 54 yarder a shot speaks volumes. These days, it seems like most schools have a kid that can kick those easily. Our recruit for next year hit a 75 yarder at a kickers camp. . . .
*Coaching. Jury's still out. Out coached in the second half. Brain dead delay penalty coming out of a break (haven't seen that since Shaw). On the positive side, the players seem to genuinely like him. Would like to see a little fearing him, as well. . . .
Hopefully those get cleaned up.
One last note, though I wasn't at the game, it must be incredibly annoying to have the stadium announcer scream wildly every third down play for the defense. Even on TV is was noticeable, annoying and took away from the game.
One last last note. Man, those ACC announcers were horrid. Mistakes galore, and glaring ones at that.
