Peters was traded by SF to Tampa for Brett Wisely. Subsequently, his contract was sold by the Rays to the White Sox.
Lopez was waived by SF. He was selected through the waiver process by Miami.
In other words, the Giants were not fleeced by anyone. Things are not going great now but there is no reason to rewrite history to build on a negative narrative.
What's the positive narrative for letting two talented 2026 All-Stars -- slip through your fingers?
I have no problem at all with either guy moving on. Lopez was a flyer signed during spring training and put on waivers before the end of that same spring training. He had no track record that indicated he would be a good player.
With genuine respect, I disagree. Lopez hit .436 in 43 ABs at AAA in the IL before the Giants acquired him and gave him just six ABs. He would go on to hit .271 in MLB that year for Miami. Agree with you that Zaidi didn't develop him, that is certain. But he had a track record.
