Max Flack of the Chicago Cubs and Cliff Heathcote of the St. Louis Cardinals.
During a Memorial Day doubleheader at Cubs Park, the Cubs defeated the Cardinals 4–1 in the opener.
Between games, the two managers, Bill Killefer and Branch Rickey, negotiated a straight-up trade: Flack for Heathcote.
The players literally swapped uniforms and clubhouses, then took the field for the second game—this time playing against their former teammates!
Even better, both players got hits for their new teams in the second game. The Cubs won again, 3–1.
It remains the only documented instance of two MLB teams exchanging players between games of the same doubleheader and having both immediately play against their former clubs.
