I'm going to guess -- and this is just a guess based on the nature of the question -- that the answer is former San Francisco Giant, Kyle Harrison. BTW, and FWLIW, Harrison went 11-5 on the season with 141 strikeouts in 115 2/3 innings. ERA was exactly league average at 4.20. 0.5 WAR. But he had a 2.79 ERA through 21 starts, then was shelled in his last four outings.
Correct. In fact, he did not play in any of the Brewers post-season games.
Time for a Halloween-related question.
Who was the coach known as The Great Pumpkin?
Sidenote: He was in the Marines during WWII and was present at the raising of the flag at Iwo Jima.
Dee Andros - so named for being a hefty dude in his OSU orange jacket. Reason I know this is he was assigned to the Marine Corps' 5th Division which trained in Camp Tarawa, located in ranching country on the Big Island (Hawai'i) where I grew up. The site was chosen because of its proximity to steep cinder cones on the slopes of Mauna Ke'a, which the higher ups decided would provide great training grounds for fighting on similar topography on Iwo Jima.
My grandma ran one of several general stores in town which was frequented by the GIs - she also made side money doing their laundry. We'd still have visiting vets stop by to say hi to her and my dad up until I left for the Farm in the late 1970's.
The commemorative monument for the camp shown in the linked article is ~ a quarter mile from the old family property, as the crow - oops, mynah bird - flies.
