That UCLA men's soccer game was a real nail-biter. With just a few minutes left, UCLA had the equalizer nullified by an offside call. The player was in offside position, but from the replay it doesn't really look like he was involved in the play. It was a tough call for the AR because the UCLA striker to whom the centering pass was intended was making a run and might have been shielded from the AR's view. I just mention it because we got the bettter of a questionable call on the road, which doesn't often happen (IMO of course). And Jordan Morris' game-winner was a no-doubt laser from way out into the far upper corner of the net. That was one heck of a boot!
Finally, it's worth noting that this win is the first for men's soccer at UCLA since the beginning of time!
If there's one thing people have learned in Berkeley, it's that you can't put "Cal football" and "Rose Bowl" in the same sentence. The words just don't fit. You'd be better off linking "covered wagons" with "Mars travel." (Bruce Jenkins, Cal '70, SF Chronicle, Nov. 11, 2017)
