ESPN College GameDay is such a powerful promotional vehicle that it's interesting for a school to turn down the opportunity to host; most schools lobby for the chance to generate all the free publicity that comes with the visit. It seems to be self-defeating to pass on hosting GameDay.
Lee Fitting, the show's longtime producer spoke at the SVG College Sports Summit last week and revealed that in the show's entire history they had only been rejected once. "The school's in Berkeley, California" he said.
He did clarify that it was under a previous AD and that the current AD has indicated that they are interested, although obviously that is unlikely in the near future.
