While it's a well reported story, one asterisk -- I do find it a bit hard to believe a 5'11" guy is a top, top tennis prospect unless the rest of his game is amazing. (Which the description of his tools -- strong forehand + serve; weak backhand -- does not suggest.) Anyway, that's mostly me being persnicketty.

It would be interesting to know why some get a 2 point reduction and some 3 for "accepting responsibility".

I looked at a few of the plea agreements and it seems the people who had more points got a 3 point reduction, the cut off seems to be those with 15 or fewer gross points got a 2 point reduction, those with 17 or more gross points got a 3 point reduction (so far no one with 16 gross points)

the section of the code cited is slightly different for those with 2 points (USSG §3E1.1(a)) vs those with 3 points (USSG §3E1.1(b)), although some of each (2 and 3 points) are less specific and just show USSG §3E1.1

so it appears that if you had more to apologize for get more credit for the apology......

Manuel Henriquez, 55, a co-founder of Hercules Capital who stepped aside as chairman and chief executive after being charged in the case, is scheduled to enter a guilty plea in U.S. District Court in Massachusetts on Monday, prosecutors said.

Henriquez’ wife, Elizabeth, 56, also is charged in the case, and represented by different lawyers. It was unclear whether she, too, would plead guilty.

According to the court documents, alleged mastermind William "Rick" Singer emailed the couple in August 2016 stating he needed a copy of their older daughter’s transcript and test scores “very soon while I create a coxswain profile for her. It would probably help to get a picture of her on an ERG in workout clothes like a real athlete too." Giannulli replied, "Fantastic. Will get all."
In March 2017, Singer’s accountant emailed a $200,000 invoice to Giannulli and Loughlin. Just weeks later, Giannulli forwarded the $200,000 invoice to his own accountant for payment. Along with the invoice, Giannulli wrote: “Good news my daughter … is in [U]SC … bad is I had to work the system,” according to the court documents.
