i could be wrong, but it was my impression that charisma osborne did not lack interest or academics; rather, with fran belibi, ashten prechtel, and (hopefully) haley jones in the class, we did not have room for both hannah jump and charisma. we chose hannah over charisma. the decision disappointed me, for one. no disrespect to hannah, who is a fine player, but charisma was the more celebrated of the 2 and seemed to me the more promising.
I think Osborne might be the better overall basketball player but I think Jump was the right choice for Stanford. One of the things Stanford does really well is get three-point shooters good open shots. For that strategy to pay off, you need good three-point shooters to take the shot. Think of all the plays we ran to get Karlie Samuelson an open three during her senior year. Jump is that great three-point shooter we need in our offense. She made 41% of her threes vs 33% for Osborne.
Agree with you in large parts. But in reality, what has that done for us? We may regularly be a contender...but it is really ya a contender for the final four. It’s been a decade since most women’s basketball fans really put Stanford as a real contender for a championship. There’s always been hope, but it was based on a superior athletic team slipping.
Charisma can score inside or out. Hannah is one dimensional, which has become a trademark of Stanford ball. Hoping this slew of recent great recruits can change that up!
Respectfully, kinda feels like we're 2+ years late to this debate.
Jump committed in February 2018, and that recruiting class finished out with overall no. 1 recruit Haley Jones announcing her commitment to Stanford on live TV. Not sure what the point is of relitigating this two years after the fact.
I'd rather focus on imaging the possibility we could get three consensus top ten recruits in Betts, Gardiner, and Rice, as I think we are definitely likely finalists for all three.
