Interesting article. But Buddy had a lot of success when he instituted the new policy.  70-30 after 9-41 isn't too bad.  And in the last three years, he's gone 8-2, 9-1 and 9-1.  He's doing something right.

Buddy found the right coaching fit for himself, and I am happy for him.  He may have been an ineffective coach for Stanford, but he was not a bad guy.

Actually I thought it was a decent hire. Here was a guy who had taken a program that was in the doldrums and led them to a New Years Six Bowl Game. So while it wasn't obvious that he would have the same result at Stanford, at least he had a track record. Also, we were still bound by the Ted Leland "do it on the cheap" philosophy of hiring head coaches, so we were somewhat limited in our choices. Of course it didn't work out, but I don't think that was particularly predictable.
