Stanford pin players were pounding the ball. Check the floor for dents.
You could hear the WSU crowd react to the sound of that hit.

Tufuga got a chance to show her stuff. She did not disappoint.

Very high intensity, high level 4 sets where we came back from 3-4 points behind a number of times. I like that we managed to fall behind in the 20's in the first two sets yet held strong and won them both in long, hard fought sets. That was not something we did much last season.
Oglivie had a particularly good match. Our defense was superb. Our service return was much better than WSU's giving Miner lots of options.
I wish there was a stat listed that indicated how many points were won on each woman's serve. I know the coaches look at this stat. Good serving is not mostly about aces, but getting the opponent out of system by moving the setter behind the 10' line or off to one side enough to eliminate her setting options and allow us to get in good blocking position. For instance, Kipp's serving stats today show 1 ace and 6 service errors. Certainly a lot of errors, but I got a feeling we won a lot of points when she was serving.
Happy to see Francis out of the boot and walking around. Hopefully back next weekend or the weekend after for Oregon. I don't know how good/bad Tufuga is offensively, but only getting 2 kill attempts in 4 sets allows opponents to ignore her and double up the pins. Her defense was good leading the team in blocks (2 solo and 5 assists).

I really doubt Francis will play but watching her on the sideline this past weekend betting she is back soon
I would rest Francis another week, or let her see very limited action if she is really ready.
Should not really need her vs. USC or UCLA, at home.
It would be nice to have her available at Oregon.

I was at the WSU game with my wife and kid. Bohler "Arena" is an old gym and was sold out with a very loud crowd. I saw no other Stanford gear in the place except what was on us. It was a beautiful day outside, but there was a completely full student section (called the "Block") at one end, and they were shouting at the server from inches away in sets 1 and 3. The foot faults appeared valid, but could be partially explained by the crowd. WSU had a set point in each of the first 2 sets and could easily have one either set. There was one spike by Rubin (iirc) in the second set that as good as any of Kipp's (and one of the college kids next to me said "that was badass crazy!"). I'm sure the coaches and team will be glad that this was their last ever visit to Pullman.

Great post. Thanks. I watched the match on TV. When Stanford scored a point you could hear a pin drop. At the time I thought I could probably count on one hand the number of Stanford fans in the crowd.
I agree the foot faults were valid. The linesman even missed one of them on Kipp. I replayed it just to make sure. I also felt the screaming student fans at one end of the gym were too close to Stanford's server.
Whatever is in store for WSU next year with conference realignment, it will be a step down from playing teams like Stanford.
