When everyone plays their best, we can beat anyone in the nation.
When everyone plays their worst, you get today…
Don’t know about worst, but everyone seems half a step slow.

Watching Wisconsin vs. Minnesota on Fox to get my fill of good volleyball today. The difference is amazing.

Yep. The problem for Stanford is if they don't get a #1 regional seed they will probably meet up with Wisconsin or Nebraska prior to the final four. I don't think they can beat either team unless every Stanford player is at peak performance for the entire match which never happens.
If Stanford finishes the season with no more losses they likely will be a #1 regional seed. However I expect Stanford to lose another match when least expected.

For ASU, this was the most important match of the season. For us, not so much. If/when we meet Nebraska or Wisconsin, it will be (at least up to that point). If all of the ASU players weren’t playing at peak performance for the entire match today, they weren’t very far off. No reason why we can’t/won’t do the same if/when the time comes, whether we’re playing at Stanford or somewhere else.
Sure, it’s disappointing that the team got complacent today, and that they’re not so talented that they can beat anyone even with their C Game (Although we already knew that). But I’m guessing that they will learn the lessons they need to learn from this match.

Well, I’m probably the biggest Caitie fan on the Board, and, while I thought she may have been, overall, the best player out there today, it was far, far from her best ( and even her average performances lately). On Friday, at one point, I believe she was something like 11-2 points on her serve (including 7 in a row to win the first set). Today, iirc, 3 of her first 4 serves were “not even close” errors. Also, her Serve receive seemed a little more problematic than usual.
As for Sami, she missed a few easy block opportunities, and the usually lethal slide kill wasn’t anywhere near as effective as it has been.
All of that being said, I’m confident they, and everyone, will bounce back strong.

disagree on Francis - she was a late read or slow on lots of block opportunities, and had some go through her hands

Disappointing game today no doubt. The last game in back to back road weekends is hard.
Yes, we could drop but who would move up? We’ve beaten Louisville, Washington State, Oregon, and Texas who are 4-7 in the committee rankings.

First time ASU swept Stanford WVB since 1993 and looking at the scores it's most likely the worst loss ever to ASU. First year coach at ASU had his team prepared.

Today's AVCA poll released: Stanford at #5. Louisville #3 and Texas #4. I agree where Stanford is currently ranked in the poll.
The match on Friday against WSU is important for Stanford to stay in contention for a #1 regional seed. If Stanford wins on Friday and wins the balance of the conference season they are pretty much assured of playing at home. If Stanford loses to WSU I have doubts about the regional tournament being played at Maples.
Volleyballmag.com has a weekly poll. It's voters post their thoughts on some teams each week.
https://volleyballmag.com/vbm-super-16-m...ll-103023/
Punzel: I’m definite about 1-2, Nebraska and Wisconsin. After that, I’m lost. I thought Stanford had established itself as a definite No. 3 but I thought wrong.
Haley: The top three (Nebraska-Wisconsin-Louisville) are taking care of business.
Arneal: Stanford suffered one of the more shocking losses of the year, falling to Arizona State. The surprise wasn’t that the Sun Devils won, but rather how they did it with a dominant sweep as the Cardinals reached 20 points in just one set.
Feinswog: It feels like there are three tiers. The first is Nebraska-Wisconsin, and they’re a cut above. The second is Texas-Louisville (my 3-4). And then the rest you could put in a blender.

Highly ranked prep player Abigail Mullen decided on USC. Looks like Jordyn Harvey will be Stanford's default OPP for the next three years.

I’m not familiar with this Feinswog person, but, given that we defeated both of his [her?] second tier teams at their places, we must be on the mezzanine between tier one and tier two…
I agree that the WSU match has taken on a little added importance, but I’m guessing that fact isn’t lost on the team.

Considering the sheer extent of the loss - they didn’t just get swept - they were destroyed. Dropping at least below Louisville seems certainly plausible. It looked like an intramural squad went out to play a top 25 team.

Hayley Hodson filed a lawsuit in March 2018 against Stanford and USAV for concussions she suffered in practices. Her case was finally scheduled to go to a jury trial last week. I just checked on it and found that a settlement was reached last week between Hodson and Stanford.
Over five and a half years, literally hundred of motions and documents filed with the Santa Clara County Superior Civil Court and now they decide to settle. If both sides had settled back in 2018 they could have saved hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees and put that into the settlement
I have no idea about the settlement. I had read Hodson and her parents were asking for a boatload of money.
