Agree about the low probability of seeing a Prechtel-Brink-Belibi combo in our lineup, but this reminds me that South Carolina is going to be very big and strong, so we might need a lineup like that in our back pocket for the tournament. I'm curious to see how well Demetre defends the perimeter, as this will go a long way toward determining how we use her. I'm still thinking that Iriafen might be the surprise here, especially after seeing her practice those crossover dribble-drive dunks. With her size and quickness, she might be able to give us size, speed, quickness and perimeter potential -- if not as a frosh, then at least going forward.

I asked Sept 27, and the answer I got (in this thread) was "next month".  So, unless something has changed or that person is wrong, probably in the next three weeks, which makes sense, she's just taken visits to UCLA and Stanford, and while I don't know when she visited UConn and Duke, I suspect it either already happened or will happen shortly.  Makes sense for her to announce shortly after visits.

If she is certain she wants to say close to home, then Duke is probably her choice.   Hard to see her choosing Yale since the academics are no better than Stanford and the distance from home--culturally and geographically--is not insignificant.

I am hoping she'll pick us. From the video in the Twitter link earlier in the thread, she talks about wanting to compete for a program that's competing for national titles every year (that would put us and UConn in front of Duke and UCLA among others) and she stresses the importance of education (again, we would seem to lead in that criteria, too). Also, as 81alum points out, given that we are not as strong (relatively speaking) in the backcourt as we are with our posts, she can certainly compete for a starting role or at least significant minutes early on, as opposed to the Huskies, where she'll have Bueckers and Fudd in front of her.

However, after past disappointments, even though we look like the right match on paper, it's an extremely personal and individualized decision, so I am hoping for the best, but also preparing for the worst (in terms of her committing here).

Unlike volleyball, WBB doesn't keep it secret who is on scholarship. There is hardly ever anyone on the roster not on scholarship.

This year the 15-scholarship limit is relaxed in that scholarships for players who are coming back for an extra year because of COVID don't count, but for 22-23 there will be a hard limit of 15 scholarships again.

Recruited players are promised a scholarship for four years only. Whether a player who has eligibility left is invited back for additional years is at the discretion of the head coach.

A few years ago Ros Gold-Onwude was able to come back for a 5th year only because Skylar Diggins turned down her offer and went to Notre Dame instead.
