If they win out, I believe they are in for sure. An interesting question is what happens if they don't win? JH has been under pressure, but the question is: Who can Michigan find that will be better? IMHO it will be very difficult to hire somebody "better" and very easy to hire somebody who will be worse, especially this year with so many openings at elite (OK, self-proclaimed elite) programs. He actually is winning at a rate below the historic winning percentage of the program.

That noted to compare success at Michigan by any coach to success at Stanford for any coach is not particularly meaningful.

One program struggles to find 50,000 to fill the seats even when the team sports a top 5 ranking.
The other program can put 100,000 people in the stands during a driving snow storm or when the opponent is a weak FCS team.
One team has 15 conference titles in its history (3 with the current coach) the other has 42 conference titles (0 with its current coach).
One team claims 2 national titles, the other claims 11 national titles.

That noted I am not sure what the fixation Harbaugh is all about here.   He actually left Stanford.  While he was here consistently complained about the very things that will keep other coaches away or drive them to find a better gig after their first 8+ win season.

2) Schembechler was pretty good against top 10 teams (16-22) and not so good in bowl games (5-12).  Three of his four successors weren't as good as Harbaugh (Moeller, RichRod, Hoke) though Coach Lloyd Carr was better.  I don't know that UMich is happy with Harbaugh, but i don't think they're unhappy enough to part ways. 
3) It's amazing to attend a Michigan game.  I've been to four, I think the lowest attendance was over 108,000.  But then, they don't have professional football in that state (unless you count the hapless Detroit Lions, still winless, and with one postseason win in 63 years.  So UMich is their alternative, a perennial winner.  The highway signs in Michigan use the University of Michigan logo, for goodness sake.  Point being that the interest in the program is a bit insane, though the UMich fans generally acknowledge it as such.

1.  Harbaugh had misfortune of coaching in Ann Arbor at Peak TOSU (how many of those Top 10 losses are to the Buckeyes)?

2.  Aside from tOSU, Michigan is clearly the next strongest program in the Big 10 (and we'll see if there is a new pecking order after today).  The Ls against other good teams - Michigan State, most notably - were flukey.  That blocked punt on last play of game?  AYFKM?  The last game between the two teams this year, Michigan was the better team.

3.  BTW, Michigan program and fans at all-time high right now.  Will be tough to come down and focus in conference title game against a very solid (at minimum) Wisconsin team (my prediction).  I think Michigan rolls Iowa if they play them, regardless.  We'll see . . . 

Anyway, hard not to (a) be happy for MichiganFan today, and (b) compare that atmosphere to what we have on The Farm and not be sad.
