Stanford up 1-0. Venue not crowded for this one. Weather looks pretty nice.
Ok, I give up watching. If I minimize my screen and then go back to full screen, video goes back to point where I initially started watching. If log out and then go back to livestream it starts at beginning of game. I can't do anything to prevent this.

Tommy O'Rourke gets the Fullerton batter to swing at strike 3 with the bases loaded in the top of the 8th. Stanford still leads 1-0.
O'Rourke was down 2-1 in the count when the home plate umpire called strike 2 without O'Rourke throwing a pitch. The batter stepped out of the box without calling for time. Since he had not swung at the prior pitch, a called strike, he was not allowed to do that. At least, that is what the announcer explained. As a result, he was assessed a strike. Have never seen that before.
Grad transfer Joe Lomuscio made an incredible diving catch in right center for the final out of the game to sew up Stanford's 1-0 victory! Look for that highlight on your favorite Stanford sports social media channel soon.

Weather stayed in high 60s to low 70s. My lovely wife accompanied me to the game. Reactions in a separate post.

Up in the stands we thought it had something to do with the clock. The announcer’s explanation makes more sense.
Don’t forget the debuts of pitchers Ty Uber (future commercial contract obvious) and Braden Montgomery. Uber is the “show them the fastball out of the strike zone, get them with off-speed stuff. Very effective but his pitch count will never be low. Montgomery was as advertised. Catcher’s mitt pops noticeably louder. One Fullerton batter faked getting hit, probably to rattle Montgomery. Did not work.

Made Esky look like a genius with the defensive replacement. Hadn’t known his story until I went to his roster bio.

Lineup today.

Matthews with a nasty out pitch where the bottom drops out. 4 Ks through 2, all requiring a 2-3 put out.

Not a good outing for our pitchers so far. 3-0 Fullerton in the top of the 4th, bases loaded with one out. Let's see if Pancer can get us out of trouble.
Nope. Allowed a hit from the first batter, then gave up a grand slam from the next. 8-0 Fullerton.
Sigh. Another home run. Maybe Fullerton is really a top ten team that has gone under the radar.

Fullerton has always given is problems. Of a bigger concern is our lack of hitting. Guess losing out hitting coach was a big deal

t
Dunno, Bob, giving up 11 runs is not good. That collision between Troy and Crampton was ugly and probably rattled Matthews. How much does the team miss Tawa?

Stanford gets an ego-boosting game vs. 0-2 Santa Clara at Sunken Diamond on Tuesday at 6 p.m. SCU has lost two straight at USC (will probably make it three straight today).

Montgomery actually looking pretty good in RF. It wasn’t the “Mark Marquess stick a pitcher in the DH spot” type of move.
