Of course they did exercise their oversight, they just ended up coming to a decision you disagree with (as do I, and apparently many UCLA students, athletes and alums).
An interesting sidelight is that I have heard about lots of disagreement with the switch among the UCLA people but almost none from SC.

While completely true, it seems to be strangely coupled with a brobdingnagian new demand to have courses offered online (or both in-person and online).
It's hard to grasp the logic of, "I hated that online stuff, it was a complete ripoff - how dare you not let me take the next course online"
