Yes. Defense much better than ‘22.
Offensively, from the outset of the season, I’ve maintained that their offense would be as good as their ability to score without HRs. Cause I knew they’d hit plenty of homers. I don’t have the data, but I’m relatively confident the Giants have improved on that score from after the first month - when it was essentially HR or bust. I also think they’ve cut down on their strikeouts.
And then there is the bullpen. Which has gone from awful in April to terrific from early May on.
Add these factors together, you get a very good team.
Strikeouts - yep, SF has cut down on strikeouts.
April - 27.5%
May - 23.9%
June - 23.0%
And, here is an amazing stat:
Matos has seen 41 pitches out of the strike zone. He has swung and missed once.
