And yet another top 5 upset. Tennessee 69, LSU 67. I guess LSU is out of the running for a #1 seed

LSU lost after leading by double digits. Similar to the way Stanford lost. Inconceivable 2 days ago but I think Stanford keeps the 3rd #1 seed which is where you want to be - on the other side of the bracket from S. Carolina.
Ohio State winning could seal the deal for the 3rd #1. Frankly Iowa was blown out in 1 game maybe 2, that should disqualify you for a #1

indiana
all of the other teams have good aspects to their schedule and at least one bad aspect. for example iowa has more losses, including 2 bad ones, but also has 2 excellent recent wins. uconn has it's high strength of schedule rating. lsu has just 2 losses but a weak schedule.
stanford, utah, iowa (if they win tomorrow) for the last 2 #1 seeds seem pretty equal
uconn, lsu, virginia tech (if they win tomorrow) could sneak in as well

Massey still has us at 3 even with 5 losses.
NET however has us at 5 with LSU and UConn joining the expected South Carolina and Indiana ahead of us--but today's losses have not been calculated into the formula yet. Hopefull LSU drops below.
Charlie Creme has us as a 1 seed even before today's top 5 losses.
We are on the razor's edge, but does it matter, other than for player morale?
I am reminded that one of our best runs was all the way to the championship game, starting with a 2 seed. That was 2008, which was really the year that Stanford revived itself as a final four program. We had lost to UConn, to UCLA, and to USC that year. We did win the Pac 12 tourney.

LSU losing to Tennessee really helps us.
I think at this points South Carolina and Indiana are locks. I think Iowa can play itself into a #1 seed if it beats Ohio State. And then the last #1 seed will be a big question mark. I think we probably deserve a two seed, having lost two out of our last three games. But I also can’t find another team that is clearly more deserving of a #1 (though I don’t think we are clearly more deserving of a #1 than anyone else).
Will be an interesting reveal.

After absorbing yesterday's games, Charlie Creme has us as a 1 seed still, along with Maryland, Indiana, and South Carolina.
Iowa, Virginia Tech, LSU, and Utah are the 2 seeds.
Poor Oregon drops to the first team out again, giving the Pac 12 just 7 teams in.
Meanwhile, Massey just moved us up to #2 overall, ahead of Indiana, and the NET moved us up to #4 overall.
A one seed looks more probable today than yesterday. Fortunately, we were not the only highly ranked team to lose prematurely in their conference tournament--there were a bunch of others
Iowa plays Ohio State today in the Big 10 championship. An Iowa defeat would seal the deal for us. Not positive whether our spot is threatened or not given the other developments, but an Ohio State win would remove much of any doubt.

Would the tournament have three B1G teams as number ones (Indiana, Maryland and Iowa)? I think an Iowa loss is good for us, but it is probably Maryland who is rooting for Ohio State the hardest.
I won’t be upset if we don’t get a #1 seed.

If VTech wins they have more wins against top 25 then stanford, and would be 11th win in a row

Maryland, Iowa, VTech, Stanford are Creme's current 1 and 2 seeds that are competing for the 2 remaining spots, if we assume South Carolina and Indiana are in.
Here is the NET for them as of last night:
4 Stanford
6 Iowa
9 Virginia Tech
13 Maryland
Here is Massey as of last night:
2 Stanford
6 Virginia Tech
7 Maryland
8 Iowa
Here is Strength of Schedule"
1 Maryland
2 Iowa
4 Stanford
18 Virginia Tech
(40 LSU)
I also think the committee would have a hard time putting 3 teams from the Big 10 as one seeds, so if we assume South Carolina, Indiana, and either Maryland or Iowa get the third, then it comes down to Stanford vs. Virginia Tech for the 4th.
While there is disagreement that the Pac 12 is the "best" league there is no doubt that it is at the very least the second best league and it would make sense to have one Pac 12 team as a one seed. Plus we are rated better than Virginia Tech in all these categories, especially strength of schedule.
On the other hand, Virginia Tech won its tourney, is the hotter team right now, and is more the Cinderella story.
We really won't know until the selections are announced. Will we be the last 1 seed and Virginia Tech the highest 2 seed? Or will Virginia Tech be the last 1 seed and Stanford the highest 2 seed? If either of those two happen, then we will probably wind up playing the same opponent if we make it to the elite 8: most likely Virginia Tech (or maybe Iowa) assuming that we win three in a row to get there.
In short, this is a case, similar to 1998, where being a 1 seed or a 2 seed is nearly irrelevant. Being the lowest 2 seed would make more of a difference--but not really when we are on the knife's edge for a 1 seed. The only thing that matters as a 2 seed is NOT having to play South Carolina just to go to the final four. Any other 2-seed spot is about as good as any other, and given the parity at the top, being a 2 seed is not any worse than being a 1 seed unless it means you do get stuck with South Carolina.

A 2 seed may not be too bad.. if the previous losses were not enough to have the team play with a chip on their shoulder, maybe a 2 seed will. I’m watching basketball and I’m disappointed to not have the PAC 12 championship to look forward to, but at least I don’t have any nerves or anxiousness. Maybe the basketball gods saved Stanford from injuries today ??♂️

One never knows how a committee will see things, but if we are talking about Stanford possibly being the 4th or 5th seeded team, overall, in the tournament, there is very little practical difference between the two. Not zero difference, but very little difference. If seeding holds to the Elite Eight, the difference is who gets to wear white uniforms in that game, as the higher seeded team. On the way to that game, in theory a 5th seeded team would play slightly tougher teams, but the difference is slight and the seedings don't always play out as expected. Thus, as much as I care about Stanford women's basketball (and I really do care, as I had to wait, after that ridiculous officiating the last four minutes of the game Friday night, until now before I trusted myself to post), I have a lot of trouble working up a "care" about whether Stanford is seeded fourth or fifth overall.
Also, though I usually subscribe to the "avoid the top team(s) as long as possible, because that gives more other teams the chance to knock them out before you get to them" theory, I don't think that applies to Stanford this year. I don't know if Stanford will get to the Final Four. Lots of my fellow rabid Stanford fans say "no," but I think there are a whole lot of teams this year--more than usual--that could make it to the Final Four this year, as there is one great team and a whole lot of other teams that are good, but have flaws. That group includes Stanford. We might not make it, but we might.
If we do, my vote this year is to play South Carolina in the first game of the Final Four, not the second. As others have posted, our scouting report advantages seem to be more significant on the first game of a weekend than the second. While beating South Carolina is a tall order for anyone this year, I actually like our chances of doing it on a Friday better than on a Sunday.
My bottom line: If we are talking about Stanford being the fourth or fifth overall seed, I can live with either one.
Of course, we might not be talking about that. One never knows.

Charlie Creme has revised his predictions, and he has kept Stanford as a 1 seed and added Virginia Tech as a 1 seed, knocking two Big 10 teams to the 2 seed level:
1 seeds
South Carolina
Indiana
Stanford
Virginia Tech
2 seeds
Iowa
Maryland
LSU
Utah
I'm a bit surprised. I still think it is a flip of a coin which 2 teams out of Stanford, VT, Iowa, and Maryland get the 2 remaining 1 seeds. Nevertheless, just for a bit of fanciful fun, if Cremes' predictions came true and seeds held, this is who we would play:
At Maples:
Southern Utah
Oklahoma State
In Seattle:
Texas
Maryland
Final Four in Dallas:
Indiana
South Carolina
That would set up a trip down memory lane. It would be a rematch of Stanford and Maryland, 1 and 2 seeds, in the state of Washington, in the regional final--like 1998. 2008. In that game Candice scored 41 points for us to send us to the final four and prove the committee had wronged us by putting us below Maryland as a 2 seed. That was the most important win for the program in 11 years--the last time we had made it to the final four, and it changed the trajectory and expectations for the program.
In the past, however, I have found Creme to be pretty far off the mark, and have wondered why so many people put so much stock in his predictions. I guess just because--like me--they find them entertaining.

Just thought of one possible reason to care about 4 or 5 overall seeding: Might that determine where Stanford would be sent for a regional? If Stanford and Va Tech, for example, are vying for the 4th and 5th overall seeds, would regional geography be dependent on which is no. 4?
Frankly, the NCAA changes its approach to such matters so often that I don't know the answer to my question.

I generally don’t throw things directly at the TV (other directions, sometimes), but I did get up out of my seat and almost try to fight the refs through the TV when the out of bounds call came down in favor of UCLA. That was truly the worst.
BC, I think you’re thinking about 2008 not 1998? 1998 is the year we don’t speak of.
