Well said. It is unfortunate but you expressed my feelings exactly. Stanford Athletics without major conference membership and top level competition will be hard to take. “Stanford means excellence. Well not in every respect”. However, I shall not jump off any metaphorical bridges while the thread of possible membership in the Big 20 exists. I just hope our leadership is smart enough to jump at it and doesn’t succumb to the “good riddance to competitive athletics “ notion. Nor do I want Stanford to retreat from excellence an any academic area .. I’m not interested in a second tier physics program or a club sport Econ program.

I go to these sports.
it will be interesting to see if football and men's basketball end up creating "conferences" just for those sports and all the others sports form geographic conferences where the members vary by sport. Of course some of this already exists today...

Why is everyone giving the BoT a pass on this mess? They hired to two idiots who got us into the mess we are in and seem to have no interest in the outcome at all. They are all happy as long as their holdings increase.

If there is going to be an attempt to rebuild the Pacxx, the 4 remaining schools are going to have to develop a united approach. That is hard to do if you are approaching MWC and Notre Dame at the same time.

The professional/personal resumes of those trustees are very impressive...but none of that screams "good comprehension of collegiate sports." Maybe they should have contracted that committee out to us here.

I come to this board for very high quality/well-reasoned discussion but this is the last of the Stanford fan communities I’d go to on this. Way too tilted toward Olympic sports/against football.

I actually think we strike a good balance. You'll see many of us at bowl games and away games in our neck of the woods if Stanford comes out here. I live in a football factory state; I used to love it years ago before the CTE and big money started to overshadow the joy of collegiate athletics and school loyalty. I still watch when I can, but I no longer organize the local alumni club watch party for every game.
If not us, then why couldn't the BoT have gotten some of our best GSB professors to consult on the negotiations? Geez.

I don't think Stanford has gotten close to negotiate its own fate.
The conference needed better advisers in ITS media negotiations. Somebody better than Kliavkoff's college buddy.
