USC was undoubtedly "flat" against Arizona. That said, Arizona played much of the game with 7 defensive backs. They basically dared USC to run, and USC mostly couldn't/didn't do so.

My kid who I took to Stanford games for 18 years (since he was born) spends one year at Arizona and now he's an Arizona fan...

The USC-Arizona game was fun. The biggest surprise to me, aside from the fact that Arizona played USC toe-to-toe the entire game, was how much pressure Arizona got on Caleb Williams while rushing only 3 players most of the time.

It seemed like most of USC's big plays came while Caleb Williams was scrambling.  If USC's QB was only average and not a likely #1 draft pick, Arizona would have won handily.

OU-Texas had a legendary block by Stanford transfer Walter Rouse, who ended up blocking two Longhorns on the game-winning TD pass.

All things considered, it was the most enjoyment I’ve gotten from a day of watching CFB this year. Probably not coincidental that it was a Stanford bye week.

And I disagree with all of you who think any athlete who leaves Stanford to earn a degree elsewhere has axiomatically committed an act of self-harm. Opportunities in life are truly where you find them. A searcher’s mentality isn’t bad.

It’s probably true that transfers out of Stanford are going to be more common than in the past, as they are throughout college sports. Tsk-tsking past the graveyard is both sad and ineffective.

Assuming people are serious about the tsk-tsking, I find it to be the most annoying thing about Stanford fans.  I think a couple of WBB transfers drove BC from active engagement because it upset him so much.  Newsflash: people do just fine in life without setting foot on Stanford's campus, or setting feet briefly before moving on. Maybe Stanford isn't the draw it once was for a lot of reasons. I think that mindset is one of them.

Mario Cristobal strikes again!  The loss to Tech was more egregious than the loss to Stanford, because they snapped the ball on third down with the game clock at 0:34 and Tech out of timeouts.  Unbelievable.  Still Tech stripped the ball and scored from 74 yards out in about 26 seconds with no time outs.  No, we are not in your league, Canes.

Oddly enough, when Cristobal swallowed the olive against Stanford, my daughter was in town for a wedding with her then 6 month old daughter in tow.  I only saw game action out of the corner of my eye because I was too busy being enthralled with my granddaughter's peals of laughter when I shook a water bottle for her. When Cristobal upped the ante in Miami, my daughter was in town for a wedding with her 5 year old daughter (flower girl) and 2 year old son in tow.  I was distracted by the latter shuttling him back home from the Presidio venue while the former was busy "closing down the dance floor" with gusto. I only heard game action as Sirius XM background noise while trying to get the little man calmed down after his continued partying on the lawn was interrupted, as I negotiated some latent Fleet Week traffic out of the City.  Thought I heard 'out of time outs' and 'take a knee'.  Didn't realize what happened until the Boss made me turn off the end of the Cal - Oregon State game and I found my way over to the ACC Huddle.  Why on earth are they interviewing Brent Key, Haynes King, and Christian Leary?  Hmmm....Mark Richt doesn't look happy at all.....

Well said.  Your comments reminded me of the Russell White saga (only vice versa).  He arrived at Cal as a highly recruited Prop 48 athlete (his academics disqualified him from playing his freshman year) with aspirations of playing in the NFL.  It was all about football.  

Once his learning disability (dyslexia) was diagnosed and addressed, he began to focus his efforts on academics and earning a degree.  He became a true student-athlete opting to return his senior year to continue his schooling rather than turn pro.  The rest is history - he was a third round choice of the Rams but fizzled out quickly.  OTOH, he has been very successful working with youth as a teacher, coach and school administrator.
