Congratulations to Stanford, the regular season champs and top seed in the conference tournament!! We saw tonight the impact of Cameron Brink's will to win. Brooke DM did have trouble on defense. But her offense may have won the game for us. Not her scoring but her consistent ability to get offensive rebounds and loose balls. Talanas clutch free throws at the end would not have occurred unles Demeitre corrals the long bound and get fouled for the fourth OSU foul. That is not to take anything from Talana’s absolutely clutch performance at the free throw line. According to the announcers, that performance came from a 60% free throw shooter.

Sadly it was only 4 offensive fouls on Brink. The last foul was that trip on defense. Which greatly annoys me. If I have to watch stupidity, make it at least be epic, memorable stupidity. Instead I had to witness run-of-the-mill, boring officiating stupidity.
More seriously, The double/triple teaming was interesting. And the pace really picked up as the game went on. I assume based on a combination of nobody hitting outside shots for us, Cam being dominant, and the refs repeatedly falling for the flops.
And yeah if anybody else steps up today it’s an easy win. Instead Kiki and Cam had to carry almost the entire load themselves today. That won’t work most days against good teams.

After the game, in the crowd as we were leaving, several OSU fans talked to us, were very complimentary about Cam, Tara, and Stanford generally. Really classy fans, including during the game. We told them that we'd be rooting for OSU except in any game against Stanford.

Great win for the ladies. Road wins are not easy, especially against a Top-10-ish team, even without Beers. Congrats to the P12 Champs!
Still feeling like we aren't a Final Four quality team if Hannah, Talana, Brooke, etc. aren't scoring. Our offense becomes too predictable. Given that our size was a major advantage, the gameplan was to bang inside (rightly so). But the other players still have to be aggressive on offense and hit shots when it's their time. Just didn't happen tonight.
On the other hand, this IS a Final Four team if we can get consistent play from the supporting cast. Not just Jump, Lepolo, Demetre, but also Ogden, Harriel, Agara...it's that time of the year where everyone has to bring their A game! Tonight, that group was 11-34 from the field. It needs to be more like 16-34. Those 10+ points are the difference between a Final Four run and getting bounced.

I agree with some of the posters above--this was a good win, but we need to improve if we are going to go deep in the post season. For example, if we play Oregon State again in the Pac 12 tournament and they have Beers back, Brink will not get 8 O-boards.
We need our supporting cast to rise to the occasion, particularly on offense. That means three point shooters have to hit at least a few more to keep the opposing teams from collapsing all over Brink and Iriafen. A good defensive scheme can clog the paint and take away Jump--we saw that last year over and over and again last night.

We did pretty well with that last night--those six players were collectively 4/10, but Jump was 0/4 under withering pressure. Time for me to pause and celebrate the success of this team. They were picked third in pre season polls. They won it outright with a game to go. We are talking about them in terms of a final four slot. There wasn’t much of that in pre season. In short, they have over performed vs last years underperformance. Hats of to a gritty hard working Bucnch of young women.
The coaches too, deserve commendation. This season began with the shell shock of two undergraduate excellent players transferring to other schools. It looks to me as if changes have been made; changes in attitude, recognition that you can’t keep young talent if they don’t have playing time and a refocus on team chemistry. They successfully integrated three freshmen plus Harrriel into important roles.
I will continue to kibbitz and criticize the coaching staff and agonize over player performance. I suspect I will exercise my prerogative as a fan, a season ticket holder and a former 5th grade YMCA team coach to criticize and complain. But right now, a hats off and thank you to this team and these coaches is due.

Last night Cameron Brink had her personal best 23 rebounds and also logged the most minutes she's ever played at 38, despite fouling out with under 2 minutes to play.
I like the fact that TDawg let her play with 3 and 4 fouls, which gives Iriafen confidence that her coach believes in her to carry the load in the post if Cam fouls out. We needed every one of those 38 minutes to pull out this win.

The coaches too, deserve commendation. This season began with the shell shock of two undergraduate excellent players transferring to other schools. It looks to me as if changes have been made; changes in attitude, recognition that you can’t keep young talent if they don’t have playing time and a refocus on team chemistry. They successfully integrated three freshmen plus Harrriel into important roles.
I will continue to kibbitz and criticize the coaching staff and agonize over player performance. I suspect I will exercise my prerogative as a fan, a season ticket holder and a former 5th grade YMCA team coach to criticize and complain. But right now, a hats off and thank you to this team and these coaches is due.

7) Both Ogden and Demetre had sub-par games. In short, we really were led by our big two and no one else eally stepped up to help them with double digit significance. If they had, the game would not have come down to the wire. This is a little concerning.
8) We made only 4 treys and OSU made 8. That accounts for a lot. We led in 2nd chance points 24 to 9--that reflects our sizable rebounding edge. We doubled OSU in points in the paint 36-18. They really miss Beers.
A win on the road against a highly ranked team is always a good win. But Rueck has shown us we have things to work on. The wrinkle this time? Rueck almost never double teams us, but this time Cam was double and triple teamed, a lot. He took us a bit by surprise. Brink had 4 assists but she probably should have had more, since that is the way out of the doubles and triples.
Sadly it was only 4 offensive fouls on Brink. The last foul was that trip on defense. Which greatly annoys me. If I have to watch stupidity, make it at least be epic, memorable stupidity. Instead I had to witness run-of-the-mill, boring officiating stupidity.
More seriously, The double/triple teaming was interesting. And the pace really picked up as the game went on. I assume based on a combination of nobody hitting outside shots for us, Cam being dominant, and the refs repeatedly falling for the flops.
And yeah if anybody else steps up today it’s an easy win. Instead Kiki and Cam had to carry almost the entire load themselves today. That won’t work most days against good teams.
