Listed transfer eligibility requirement:

-completed courses for college credit for an associate or bachelor degree program since completing high school.

That's it.

All this means is that you can't apply to be a freshman at Stanford more than once. The "Stanford for Transfer Students" pamphlet notes:

-spaces offered to transfers are limited
-most competitive students will apply to enter with two years of college-level coursework (i.e. as a junior)
-Stanford does not have a minimum number of credits for entry as a transfer student
-there are no required courses a student must have to be eligible for transfer to Stanford
-students must spend at least two years enrolled full-time at Stanford to receive a bachelor's degree from Stanford

Maybe they don't take many juniors or seniors, but they can.

And yes, if you do three years somewhere else and transfer in as a senior, you will have been a full-time student for five years before receiving a Stanford degree. (Perfect for athletes with eligibility!) That is not unusual at all. In the 1950s my dad spent three years at Montana State, a year in the Army, and two years at Georgia Tech before receiving his BCE from Tech.

A scary article just came out in the SF Chronicle noting the Kiki is going to complete her undergrad degree this spring (in 3 years). I sure hope she co-terms and isn't looking to be a graduate transfer.

yes, unless things have changed they will accept you as a junior, but at least back in the day you could only bring up to 90 units with you.  My class ('82) has ~200 total transfers in, ~100 transferred in as Sophomores (although some had completed less than one year at their previous university) and ~100 as Juniors (although some may have actually completed between one and two years at their previous university).

This is the main problem for grad admissions.  Admissions to graduate programs are program-by-program and you need to apply to the specific program you are interested in (for most programs) by December 5--same as the undergraduate deadline.  Some are later.  But in December most players are focused on their season and not looking forward to the next year.  The only way to "fix" the problem would be to require the various academic departments to have later application deadlines, or (alternatively) to tell them they need to give special consideration to athletes.  See how that goes down.

The deadline for undergraduate transfers is a little better:  March 15.  Of course, there are only 20-40 of those slots (depending on the year) for the whole university, as compared with thousands of graduate admissions slots.  The reason the deadline is later is that it gives admissions time to know what the "yield" was on the entering freshman class and time to know what attrition has occurred in the returning classes.  Since both numbers have been so outstanding for so many years, the available slots are truly a minor blip in the grand scheme of admissions.  

Furthermore, the timing for undergraduate transfer admissions probably makes it a better fit for fall sports like football, since those seasons end long before the deadline.  But the deadline is still before the portal opens up and the season is over for spring sports like basketball. 

So for Stanford to recruit any WBB undergraduate to transfer, we would have to recruit them 18 months out, or we would have to break the rule and surreptitiously contact them during their season at their existing school--so they can apply prior to March 15 and prior to the portal opening. 

These ideas are not going to work.  Which means Stanford has to figure out how to do competitive athletics without the same advantages as our competitors.  But that is not a new story.

Reading that made me want to vomit. But as far as we know, there's no there there. Not saying it could not possibly happen, but so far there have been no indications of unhappiness, etc., (unlike last year, when everything just felt like a nasty vibe in the room).
