Just for fun, I asked ChatGPT to provide some details on the NFL careers of players from our 2011 Orange Bowl team (2010 season) that last played Virginia Tech. Here's what it gave me after a lot of nudging and prompting (e.g., "didn't you forget about Ben Gardner, Sione Fua, and Chase Beeler?") This might even be missing a few players, but, man, what a list! I'd take this team against anyone.
Player | Position | Draft Status | Years in NFL
Andrew Luck | Quarterback | 1st Round | 2012-2018
David DeCastro | Offensive Guard | 1st Round | 2012-2021
Jonathan Martin | Offensive Tackle | 2nd Round | 2012-2014
Coby Fleener | Tight End | 2nd Round | 2012-2018
Zach Ertz | Tight End | 2nd Round | 2013-2024
Trent Murphy | Linebacker | 2nd Round | 2014-2021
Sione Fua | Defensive Tackle | 3rd Round | 2011-2015
Owen Marecic | Fullback | 4th Round | 2011-2013
Richard Sherman | Cornerback | 5th Round | 2011-2021
Stepfan Taylor | Running Back | 5th Round | 2013-2016
Chase Beeler | Offensive Lineman | 6th Round | 2011-2014
Griff Whalen | Wide Receiver | 6th Round | 2012-2017
Ryan Whalen | Wide Receiver | 7th Round | 2014-2015
Ben Gardner | Defensive End | 7th Round | 2014-2015
Doug Baldwin | Wide Receiver | UDFA | 2011-2018
Johnson Bademosi | Cornerback | UDFA | 2011-2020
Thomas Keiser | Defensive End/Linebacker | UDFA | 2011-2014
Konrad Reuland | Tight End | UDFA | 2011-2016
Chris Owusu | Wide Receiver | UDFA | 2012-2015
Delano Howell | Safety | UDFA | 2012-2014
Michael Thomas | Safety | UDFA | 2012-2022
Matt Masifilo | Defensive Lineman | UDFA | 2012-2016
Shayne Skov | Linebacker | UDFA | 2014-2016
As far as I know, only Zach Ertz and Tyrod Taylor (from that game, on the other side) remain active in the NFL. Amazingly, Michael Thomas also played until a couple of years ago, carving out a niche as a special teams specialist.
Considerably less talent will be on the field this Saturday, but I'm looking forward to watching our current team play hard, as they always do. My brain says to go with Vegas on this one, but I'm going to wait and see how I feel on Saturday morning (which is the absolute worst way to play this game!)

As I ponder whether to go with my brain or my heart in my prediction this week, and as I listen to Coach's VaTech pregame presser,
I'm wondering if we should start a prediction thread on when Coach might ever refer to our upcoming opponent as something other than "a really good, or really great, team"?
Not to mention "well coached".
Reminds me of Lake Wobegon where every kid is above average.

Another comment as watching presser, after playing 2 games in incredibly loud stadiums, I wonder if Coach is really that happy to be returning home to a relatively calm quiet chillaxed game locale? Though hopefully more LSJU students this time, with perhaps a modicum of rabidity being welcome.

On the ACC network, two of the hosts who are knowledgeable about ACC football made many compliments about this Stanford team. They felt the score against Clemson could have been much closer.
I'll pick Stanford.
I'll pick Stanford.

Face it. While TT seems like a very good guy, his pressers, both during the week and post-game are utterly boring and devoid of any meaningful information or analysis. Watching them is a waste of time.

That feature doesn't seem to be working correctly.
I think Red Hot is simply the most optimistic and Shame the most pessimistic of the predictions entered so far. So the titles are vacant only when no one has predicted yet, when there's only one prediction it has both, etc.

Syracuse beat ranked UNLV last night in OT. They’ve beaten 2 ranked teams so far, are 4-1, with only loss to us. Is the Cardinal better than getting credit for??

Could be. Once the players start believing in themselves, they could take off...

Our defense is pretty darn good. But, we are too inconsistent on offense to get much respect out there. We simply need better QB play.
Put a glide in your stride and a dip in your hip.

It was good to see Syracuse win. However, there is also this. https://sports.yahoo.com/worst-loss-sonn...24010.html. TCU beat us, but subsequently has amply demonstrated they are not a good team. The variance week to week and over a season of college football teams is high, particularly in the non-elite teams. Transitivity also doesn't apply. IOW neither of the above results "proves" anything.

Fully agree with you BTW

Run defense is good
Pass defense is bad outside of Collin Wright and occasional pass rush
OL pass blocking is starting to be good (the way bigger problem is who they're blocking for)
OL run blocking isn't great (but they are young, and all of a sudden we have some horses in the backfield too - future looks promising)
Special teams are solid in pretty much every phase
The above is a very legit improvement from last year's team, which - outside of Karty - was bad at almost everything.
