Sigh....  ESPN announcers...   Gonzaga was down 30 points and they were talking about how good the Gonzaga players are, based on last year's accolades.

And, they talked about how questionable the rebounding might be when Stanford plays someone with length.  It is clear they didn't look at the WSU game.  The 6'6" player only got 3 rebounds in 18 minutes.

Several times, it sounded as though the announcers considered this the first game of Stanford's season. For the announcers, I guess it was.

It’s early but it’s a very nice coaching start. The team is decently coordinated early despite the player turnover. The players seem confident and settled. You can see a plan on the court. Unclear if they can handle a really big team, and if they can keep shooting this way.  But coaching can only do so much for either of those anyway.

i like the new substitution pattern. 2 guards rotate in and out together. not something tara did. shades of charli turner thorne.

i suspect it helps the accuracy on 3s to be well-rested.

While I hope that is true, I would not expect it.  In this age of pay-to-play, Foothill College could field a NCAA Div-1 championship team if a donor wanted it enough.  The best players will be bought, year by year.  It is not the coach that determines that.

I suspect you're right.  Good observation.  Tired legs mean the longer shots come up short.

Stanford's game against Gonzaga today was one of the best-played games of basketball I have seen either Stanford basketball team play in a number of years. Excellent D, crisp ball movement, good guard play, excellent trey shooting,  balanced scoring, selfless play, and taking high percentage shots. This team could become something special over the coming months.

When we lost to Gonzaga last year we had 16 turnovers.  Yesterday we had 5.  Last year our entire offense was force the ball to Brink/Iriafen (that led to a bunch of turnovers because the defense could anticipate passes) or set up a bunch of screens for Jump (also led to moving screen turnovers because the team was trying so hard to free Jump).  This year our offense is so much more diversified with any of the 9 core rotation players could be the leading scorer or be initiating the offense with the ball in their hands.  This makes us harder to defend and also harder to anticipate which seems to be leading to far fewer turnovers.
