Very high praise for our returners putting us #2 preseason only behind Texas. Nebraska at #3. No one is in the portal for us as far as I know so returning the core nucleus of players will be big. I guess we will find out how big of a jump our young returners make next year. I would put us top 10 but not top 2.

Reese dunkle is in the portal but she was out all year due to injury then removed from the team.

That said it does seem like a lazy ranking - count the players coming back and figure in the tournament success this year and presto! you have rankings! I hope they are right, but….

It’s not totally unreasonable, but I think our weakness this year, the lack of a dominant pin hitter, will not be any better next year (and, our strongest pin hitter will be gone). I think improvement at all the other positions, especially setter, will make up for the downgrade going from Rubin-Harvey-Blyashov (Kurt) to Blyashov-Harvey-Kurt, but I don’t think the improvement is enough to get us to a title. I think getting back to the final four is an ambitious, but achievable goal for the team.

Top ten ranked 2027 player Tessa Larkin is being strongly recruited by Stanford. I heard after her sophomore year her weighted GPA is 4.03 with two honors classes taken and no AP classes. If she is taking some AP classes junior year and gets B grades would that be enough for an admission offer assuming her SAT scores were acceptable?
Based on my own anecdotal observation grades/test scores are more stringent for WVB than football. Don't know if that really is true.

Also it's being reported (not confirmed) redshirt freshman Lilly Wagner, starting setter for Maryland, is transferring to Stanford. Why would Hambly use WVB's first transfer ever on a player that will be a three year bench warmer?

True, but if one was thinking of leaving, they may want to await until the spring portal so they can finish this school year. If they enter now, they would need to leave mid year which doesn't line up with Stanford's quarter system. Not saying one is leaving; just saying that if they were, they would be more likely to be in the spring portal than right now.

After thinking about it my guess would be the status of Parks' concussion. If a doctor told her another hit to the head and she would have to medically retire from volleyball, that would be a reason to put another setter on the roster. I have no idea if there's anything to that. Just a guess. Jamesy, would you have any opinion about Parks' health?

I am not aware that they are being extra cautious about Parks' health going forward.

It was already rumored on VT, but Lilly (and not Lily) Wagner from Maryland is transferring in.
