A big part of that was Somfai's 13 rebounds. (By comparison Cal's 6'5" starter had a season low 2 total rebounds in the game.)
Somfai is having an historically great rebounding season so far. Looking back to 2009 she has the second highest number of rebounds per game as a Stanford freshman:
Season Player TRB
2014-15 Kaylee Johnson 9.6
2025-26 Lara Somfai 9.0
2010-11 Chiney Ogwumike 8.0
2020-21 Cameron Brink 6.6
2018-19 Lexie Hull 4.6
2019-20 Ashten Prechtel 4.6
2019-20 Francesca Belibi 4.5
2019-20 Haley Jones 4.2
2025-26 Alexandra Eschmeyer 3.6
2022-23 Lauren Betts 3.5
And it's not just because she's getting more minutes than other talented Stanford freshman. Her rebound rate is the highest for a Stanford freshman since 2009:
Season Player TRB%
2025-26 Lara Somfai 21.8%
2014-15 Kaylee Johnson 21.8%
2020-21 Cameron Brink 19.2%
2022-23 Lauren Betts 19.2%
2010-11 Chiney Ogwumike 18.3%
2024-25 Kennedy Umeh 17.9%
2012-13 Tess Picknell 17.7%
2019-20 Francesca Belibi 17.7%
2021-22 Kiki Iriafen 17.5%
Since at least 2009, only 1 Stanford player of any class year has beaten Lara's current rebound rate for a full season - it was Cameron Brink in her senior year when she had a rebound rate of 24.8% (then #1 in the country). There's tougher competition ahead but that is a great start.
