Funny, I’m a lawyer, too, and that’s the kind of deliberate misinterpretation that I counsel my clients against trying to make in arguments over contracts … :-)

In any event, even though the recruit was already known, I’m not sure that she would be thrilled to hear that an announcement of her signing was considered a “nothing burger” by the fans. And, frankly, at this moment, even an expected announcement of someone joining — not leaving — the team — seems like a very positive bit of news to highlight.
As for remaining a fan, I’m as frustrated overall as you, I’d bet, but I just take out my drink cup from the 1990 Final Four in Knoxville, look at it, and tell myself things will get better… someday. [Which is not to say that I would object one bit to the AD lowering the season ticket price next season to keep folks coming back…  :-) ]

The problem is we were already counting her in getting to 8 players next year, so it really doesn't address the personnel problem. 

And I'm always glad for anyone to get to experience Stanford and wear our uniform, but she was very lightly recruited and had almost no D1 offers, so she is unlikely to help KP's apparent "tournament or bust" mandate. Again, nothing against her personally, but it doesn't move the need once inch.

Thx, 81alum.  Always enjoyed chatting with you at games.  The pay site is kinda of like a newspaper or magazine.  You pay a few dollars a month to access their content.  They have a dedicated mod/reporter whose sole job is to create content - interviews, stories, etc. about Stanford and also to develop sources to ferret out info about these sort of things.  He gets paid to do that full time as part of the On3 network of college sites.  If they opened it up free, there would be nobody to create the content.  He does have sources inside the athletic department and does talk to players and parents (various sports) so he can get scoops we cannot.  There are others on there who have their own sources as well.

I do get that, and the ethical need to respect a journalist who works for a living.  But once a newspaper story is published it becomes fair game, the scoop is over, and every other newspaper will run it as soon as they can.  It just seems strange to me that rumors of abuse lurk behind a paywall, that no one including the Stanford administration seem to have picked up on it, and that it leaves us fans really confused.  I have never known Stanford to sleep on such allegations--the university may even have a tendency to over react.  So I am just left with a disquieted feeling that whatever was posted behind the paywall may not be highly reliable, but it is troubling enough to bother me still.

One thing I have worried about ever since Kiki did it is the new model for Stanford recruiting and player development has to be the "3 year model."  Given the extraordinary academic support it is now commonplace for good student-athletes to be able to graduate in three years.  I think we have to assume that all of our starters will routinely leave after 3 years, since they got what they came for--the Stanford degree--and now they can go eat their cake.

The only deeply concerning transfers out, in my mind, are those by players who leave a Stanford degree behind.  And those transfers have been increasing in recent years.  Some of that happened even before Kate, however. Nivar, Van Gytenbeek, etc.  Don't get me wrong--I am devastated by losing Ogden and Agara, but I think they reflect the new reality of the transfer-friendly world.  If you have had success as a player and you already have a Stanford degree, the payday beckons.  It is like graduating and starting your first job.  But it is the loss of Amborn, Somfai, Peterson that trouble me so deeply, and give some weight to the concerns apparently expressed behind the paywall.

Reposting what I posted on the paid board. Since I suspect we aren't going to hear anything more from Donohue, and the portal is about to close, the status quo will largely be what we are stuck with for the next year. With that:

Donohue has left the program in a horrible state. Apparently KP and coaching staff are staying on, but with an impossible mandate: make the tournament. Ain't happening.

Almost no one is going to come to Stanford since players talk and clearly are, and our coaching staff has the Scarlet letter. Certainly, no one of the caliber we're used to and need to get back to the Tournament. 

Folks, our lineup is in shambles. Hailee, Alex, and Shay are solid. But that's it. Right now we don't even have enough healthy players on campus to have a starting lineup. Even if Umeh is healthy, she's played a total of 156 minutes in college. That's 4 games. Ezike played 36 minutes. That's 1 game. That's all our returning production.

Our incoming class is the least touted in modern history. Even the years where we didn't get McD's A-As we had multiple recruits ranked in the 20-40s. This class barely has top 100 recruits, and they'll need to be day one starters. And one is a 5'6" PG like Shay, so how's that gonna work? Two 5'6 PGs, two 6'4/5 posts, and Hailee? 

I guess Donohue has the luxury of looking the other way for a year, focusing on football, and cleaning house then. For the rest of us, it'll be a massive stain on the program, Tara's legacy, and probably on our viability to get back to the tournament for the next half decade.

So incredibly sad this is happening because it was utterly avoidable.

Reposting what I posted on the paid board. Since I suspect we aren't going to hear anything more from Donohue, and the portal is about to close, the status quo will largely be what we are stuck with for the next year. With that:

Donohue has left the program in a horrible state. Apparently KP and coaching staff are staying on, but with an impossible mandate: make the tournament. Ain't happening.

Almost no one is going to come to Stanford since players talk and clearly are, and our coaching staff has the Scarlet letter. Certainly, no one of the caliber we're used to and need to get back to the Tournament.

The problem is we were already counting her in getting to 8 players next year, so it really doesn't address the personnel problem. 

And I'm always glad for anyone to get to experience Stanford and wear our uniform, but she was very lightly recruited and had almost no D1 offers, so she is unlikely to help KP's apparent "tournament or bust" mandate. Again, nothing against her personally, but it doesn't move the need once inch.

Edited to add: looking at her On3 profile, we were her only known P4 offer.

To support your comment, I have a long-time source at OSU, a program where Rueck is known for developing raw post talent into highly effective players.  They did not even want to look at (and consider) Green.  Not college-ready.

Sorry John, but with all due respect, looking "reasonably athletic" when she's coming into a league full of more senior/experienced, athletic, aggressive bigs as a (VERY) lightly recruited frosh, who, as BOB noted, was basically brought in late in the recruiting game to fill out the roster is going to be a very, very tough proposition.

The Paye family are LSJU royalty! The AD might not want to act hastily and I don't blame him. Especially when TDV left behind a depleted and undersized roster and this year's team lost its point guard and best front court player for over 20 combined games.

How much money did Paye family donate to Stanford endow WBB scholarships? I want to say it was at least $1 million in honor of her late mom. Not to mention the fact her while family attended school there. 

Does Paye keeping her job count as nepotism. Maybe.

Chloe is getting her degree. She is a grad transfer. 

Thx, 81alum.  Always enjoyed chatting with you at games.  The pay site is kinda of like a newspaper or magazine.  You pay a few dollars a month to access their content.  They have a dedicated mod/reporter whose sole job is to create content - interviews, stories, etc. about Stanford and also to develop sources to ferret out info about these sort of things.  He gets paid to do that full time as part of the On3 network of college sites.  If they opened it up free, there would be nobody to create the content.  He does have sources inside the athletic department and does talk to players and parents (various sports) so he can get scoops we cannot.  There are others on there who have their own sources as well.

I do get that, and the ethical need to respect a journalist who works for a living.  But once a newspaper story is published it becomes fair game, the scoop is over, and every other newspaper will run it as soon as they can.  It just seems strange to me that rumors of abuse lurk behind a paywall, that no one including the Stanford administration seem to have picked up on it, and that it leaves us fans really confused.  I have never known Stanford to sleep on such allegations--the university may even have a tendency to over react.  So I am just left with a disquieted feeling that whatever was posted behind the paywall may not be highly reliable, but it is troubling enough to bother me still.

One thing I have worried about ever since Kiki did it is the new model for Stanford recruiting and player development has to be the "3 year model."  Given the extraordinary academic support it is now commonplace for good student-athletes to be able to graduate in three years.  I think we have to assume that all of our starters will routinely leave after 3 years, since they got what they came for--the Stanford degree--and now they can go eat their cake.

The only deeply concerning transfers out, in my mind, are those by players who leave a Stanford degree behind.  And those transfers have been increasing in recent years.  Some of that happened even before Kate, however. Nivar, Van Gytenbeek, etc.  Don't get me wrong--I am devastated by losing Ogden and Agara, but I think they reflect the new reality of the transfer-friendly world.  If you have had success as a player and you already have a Stanford degree, the payday beckons.  It is like graduating and starting your first job.  But it is the loss of Amborn, Somfai, Peterson that trouble me so deeply, and give some weight to the concerns apparently expressed behind the paywall.
