Not for long they won't, because most of their sports will probably get axed soon.
I don’t think it is written in stone that Stanford would go first to axing entire sports to save money in the AD.
There are bigger pots of money that can be pruned in football and basketball. Within ten years or less, there should be a viable off ramp to the rapid acceleration in costs in those sports.
With the coaching changeover in the 3 top spending teams, there should be quite a bit of savings for the next few years.
