What're you talking about? During SoCo I went from FloMo to the CoHo to get FroYo with my HPAC and talked about what PWR I should take and whether joining LSJUMB would take too much time away from being an RCC and the HumBio core.

That's how I got out from under, except that I didn't have to cancel it -- my card company sent me a chip card with a new number.

Another insider tip is when you are wanting to cancel a service, pick the phone option that is about upgrading or adding service (after all, in your eyes, cancelling is an upgrade  ;)). When you get to an agent, (s)he should be able to process the cancellation.

Oof.  I tried a six-month subscription for a lark in 2015 and had to make a phone call to cut loose, but it was painless, relatively speaking.

Nowadays, my business with that place includes the BootPool and...... that's about it.

I don't think it's too unusual, although there are a ton of boards that are under some commercial banner such as Scout, Rivals, SBNation, 247 Sports, etc.

I just canceled my renewal today.  I posted on that site the number I called.  I waited 15 minutes on hold with awful music, then the woman I spoke to canceled my renewal, and at my request, allegedly deleted my credit card information.

She asked why I was canceling but didn't attempt to dissuade me.

As a former Thunderdome BGL the Cardboard brings some adult information about the program in a non confrontational way. In other words I've submerged my six year old identity with at least a teenage one.

I can say there was considerable overlap.  In my opinion, the hard core recruiting junkies from the Booty are/were members and post on the Rivals site.  Some were early adopters.  The Rivals site runs circles around Scout, maybe because of that focus, focus, focus thing.  Game and general team news seems to play second fiddle on Rivals, but that might be changing with these recent developments.

What's odd to me is a lot of the hubbubb on the Booty seems to be driven by the elimination of the classic forum format and some attendant features and individual's legacy information reportedly no longer available.  It's odd, but tone-deaf on the part of Scout.  Following my old links now frog-marches me to Scout's national football page with stories about some 3-star QB committing to Wake Forest and some giant OT being down to choosing between Georgia, Auburn and Florida.  Once again, the big-thinkers at CBS bent on national domination forget the difference between being a fan of a specific team and their assumption that everyone is interested in the national recruiting scene.  So they make you dig through their multi-level site to get to the stuff you really care about.  It's all about eyeballs-on-advertising to those big thinkers.

As for the "headed for Rivals and not here" question...I think it may split.  Rivals is, ummmm, "unrivaled" in the coverage of Stanford recruiting. I think a lot of that is focus, focus, focus and better people working those stories.  It is a little too focused on recruiting minutia for my tastes but there is a market for it.  Beyond that specialization, a LOT of recruiting information is discussed here on the Cardboard, but our coverage of Stanford sports in general is better and more accessible on a timely fashion.  We run on poster/fan energy (and time generosity) to provide pretty decent coverage by ummm, crowd sourcing.  I think we will do just fine and gain some worthwhile posters from the Booty whose comments I've enjoyed.

I am NOT predicting the death of the Booty, but don't know how things will play out with them. I have about 3 mos left on my 6 mos. subscription and what used to be my (not Scout's) automatic renewal is pretty iffy.

Yes, the board is obsessive about recruiting.  You can learn there whatever happened to Freddie Telfort, and discover that more than one poster remembers the high school Freddie attended and the ailment that ended his career at USC not long after it began.

The site also benefits, however, from having a significant number of former players and parents of current and former players.  So the discussions of X's and O's are above average.

I may be butchering this history.  But my recollection is that when thebootleg first joined a broader network, it joined rivals (at the time, there was no scout), and rivals basically was formed from a collection of independent sites like the Bootleg.  That first network fell apart (likely from financial pressures), and basically broke into two separate networks, scout and rivals.  The Bootleg went with Scout.  Rivals, meanwhile, established its own Stanford site, but for many years it was an afterthought, lacking both the content and community of the Bootleg.  Over the years, several Bootleg columnists covered recruiting, to a lesser or greater extent, mostly out for a pittance.  Andy D was the best (at least in the post-Eubanks era), and he was poached by the Stanford Rivals site, so while the Bootleg continued to have a better community, Rivals actually had the recruiting scoops.
