Posey is a critical piece of the equation.  As a number of knowledgeable commentators have said, he has been greatly missed this year.  His skills behind the plate (particularly pitch framing and pitch calling), team leadership, and ability to control the pace of games has been sorely missed.  In addition, given the resurgence we have seen from the other core vets, I suspect we would have seen a real bounce in his offensive skills.  What I learned from this season is that the value of a guy like Buster extends far beyond what he can do on offense.  I look forward to seeing him return in ‘21.  

In other words, next year will begin the “official” transition from Posey to Bart.  Joey is darn fortunate to have a mentor like his fellow Georgian...

And they have a constant merry go round with Sacto.   I know it’s chic to say that starting pitching doesn’t mean what it used to.  Get through the lineup twice and go to the pen.  But that puts an incredible strain on the bullpen.  And this is only a 60 game season.  Over 162 it’s even more important.

Sometimes pitching to contact is a good thing.  So you give up a solo homer or two.  Bid deal.  It’s the 3 run jack after a couple walks that beats you.

Lex -- your comments on starting pitching reminds me of Greg Maddux's complete game back in '97.  77 pitches.  about 2 hours for the game.  he learned to pitch to contact (with plus location and movement).  one of the Braves' young arms, Max Fried (Harvard Westlake) reminds me of him in this respect.
