I think the Phillies have the easiest time of it. Nationals aren't so good this year. Marlins in fifth place. Reds and Milwaukee play each other for three, then the Reds have #4 Minnesota, and the Brewers have #6 St. Louis. Giants have #4 Padres and out-of-it Colorado, all at home.
It's going to be close. I think it's the Phillies and whichever of the remaining three get hot.

Giants go 6-2 they are in. 5-3 probable. Anything less doubtful. I believe I heard they lose tiebreaker to Reds. Not sure of others. Also not sure what tiebreakers are.

IF that occurs (not a given, and don't want to jinx things) - a big shout out to MLB for getting the regular season done, without a bubble. That was about determination from the league office and discipline from the players and staff. There were many naysayers in the commentarati, especially at the outset of the season when a couple teams reported outbreaks. But MLB in its entirety persevered. Kudos to all for getting this far.
P.S. Congrats to the Giants for getting one against the A's. May that be a springboard for the final 8 games . . .

Why was my NL Wild Card thread merged into this thread? It was specifically to talk about the teams competing for a NL wild card spot. This thread is an MLB catch all...
Anyway, the Phillies, Giants, Brewers, and Cardinals all lost Monday. Only the Reds won, so we have:
Reds 28-27 (2 Brewers, 3 Twins)
Phillies 27-27 (3 Nats, 3 Marlins)
Giants 26-27 (3 Rockies, 4 Padres)
Brewers 26-27 (2 Reds, 5 Cardinals)
I believe the Reds will be the #1 wild card as they have the best pitching and are on a roll of sorts having gone 8-2 in their last 10. The Phillies have the worst pitching of the remaining 3, but both the Brewers and Phillies have an Ace. The Giants don’t. Cueto getting blasted last night was quite telling.

I like Cueto. Love to watch him pitch. But he mailed it in last night. Disappointing to say the least.
As for the Giants, if I’m Kapler I’m going with my best healthy nine. To heck with platoons. OF of Dubon Ruf and Dickerson. No way Basabe should be starting down the stretch keep him around for being a light game defensive replacement or pinch runner. Maybe Slater can DH. But of course he’s hurt. He’s always hurt. What a tease. Gives you a little bursts where it looks like he can be a quality player and then either flames out or gets hurt.

This has been addressed in the past. Off topic posts are allowed on this board. However, it is (fundamentally) a Stanford board, and a prolferation of off topic threads on the same general topic (i.e. the Giants) can be merged as they push Stanford-related topics.

This has been addressed in the past. Off topic posts are allowed on this board. However, it is (fundamentally) a Stanford board, and a prolferation of off topic threads on the same general topic (i.e. the Giants) can be merged as they push Stanford-related topics.

Boys, Cueto has to hit spots. Simple as that. To get to the Bigs you have to have stuff. To win you have to hit spots. Cueto looked like a waiter at Tadich’s bringing a plate of abalone to the table. Of course that was in the Sixties when there was still abalone.
