Our final regular season game is against Washington. The first game in Seattle was postponed and never made up, so this is the first time we meet them this year. After the game will be the Senior Day ceremony, something we missed out on during COVID, and we are told that 5 will go through the ceremony. I presume the five are Wilson, Jerome, Lexie, Lacie, and Hamilton.
Washington has had a pretty dreadful season that is the kind that is politely called a "rebuilding year." However, they have indeed been improving markedly over the year. Sunday marked their first conference win against ASU. And last night they edged Cal at Cal by a point. So yes they are 2-11 in conference, but they are also on a two game win streak. As Tara said at last night's presser, they will be loose.
There really is no point in looking at their NET or other ratings. Probably the best information are the stats for the last couple of games. Washington has been playing 4 players for nearly all the available minutes and splitting time in the fifth position between two. We we are apt to see six players.
6'1" junior forward Haley Van Dyke has led their scoring recently. She is a solid all-around shooter who was 7/14 against Cal and 3/4 from three point range.
Their second offensive force has been 6'9" senior transfer (from Rice and Oklahoma) Nancy Mulkey. She had 17 points and 4 blocks against Cal. I am fairly sure we have never played against her before--certainly not since she just came over to Washington. It will be interesting to see if Brink can get around her on offense, and defend her without fouling on defense. When Mulkey was 15 she was written up as possibly being the next Griner. Hasn't quite worked out that way, but she is formidable nevertheless.

5'11" sophomore forward Lauren Schwarz was also in double digits against Cal and played virtually the whole game. She was 2/3 from three point range, but 6/6 from the free throw line--which makes me think she frequently drove and got fouled.
Missy Peterson is the name we probably remember the best. We have played against this 5'11" senior guard numerous times. She was out all last year with an ACL. She has not been filling up the offensive stat sheets but can shoot from anywhere.
In the fifth slot Washington has been using a couple of different players. Keep an eye on 5'11" freshman guard Jayda Noble. We will probably see her for years to come. She had significant points against ASU, and like Schwarz she seems to eat it up on the free throw line.
Based on the stats alone, Washington is not a great team. They are negative on the season in scoring margin, turnovers, rebounding, etc. They are shorter than we are in every position except their towering center. But clearly they are playing well recently and have absolutely nothing to lose on our emotional senior day. If we get tight and they play loose, then anything is possible.
