thank you for the link. it's a lovely, celebratory thread with contributors from many schools (not primarily lurkers from stanford). they are in awe of her excellence at so many skills. a uconn fan writes that, if all 3 choose to graduate this year, clark, bueckers, and brink could be one of the all-time great graduating trios. they delve into details: who is helping her improve her free throws - steph? no, pau gasol.

imo consistent graciousness and generosity has not been one of our strong points: we would do well to praise the best of opposing players like they are doing here. the only post that is even remotely negative is a duke fan writing, i hope she graduates so we don't have to play her next year.

IMO, a FT streak is a pretty low value thing to track. Guarantee none of us knew who held the record before Cam got close. I still don't know, nor do I really care. Some records (like career scoring nationally or team) are indicators of long successful careers and thus have more of a place in history. FT streak, not so much. 

It would be fun if Cam got the record, but I won't be upset if she misses and I really hope that she won't be either. My guess is that Cam doesn't care a whole ton, but pressure on her is building because it's in the press and people ask about it. What I really hope is that it ends soon so that Cam can just eliminate it from any game concern. Individual things like this can become a distraction if they get big enough. My ideal scenario is that she breaks the record, then misses one immediately after so she and the team can put it behind her. Worst scenario is that SportsCenter starts covering it. "The Cameron Brink FT watch".

Not sure I understand the reasoning here.  My ideal scenario would be that she breaks the record, and then makes another 50 [or more] in a row after that.  Besides giving us another 50 points [or more] over the course of those games, it might have at least a small effect on defenders, who might resist the urge to foul her quite so much.  Also, a "Cameron Brink FT watch" on SportsCenter would definitely boost her NIL value and perhaps give Stanford as a team a little more coverage than, say, UConn.  Also, this team seems to have a mentality where they celebrate each other's achievements, and something like 125 made free throws in a row would be quite an achievement.

In short, I'm not sure why it's a good thing to "put behind [one]" a truly remarkable record.  Except maybe to decrease the angst of us fans...

As mentioned, the distraction can be dangerous to a team and Cam doesn't need the angst herself. My guess is Tara doesn't like the attention and assuming Cam actually does break the record, I'd say it's 50/50 whether or not she says something at a press conference ("OK, she broke the record, story's over. There's much more to this team we can talk about."). As for getting 50 more points - I never procluded that. Miss, get 50, miss again, get 50 more. I'll take 98% from the line :>

She runs like a deer, has good handles and excellent touch. She will lead the country in blocks again, and now shoots the 3 and mid range with pretty good success. Plus, now the FT record. And, the camera loves her.
