Yes but Stanford might have been more attractive to the B1G if a proactive AD had stepped in sooner when it became obvious that football was declining.

Women's volleyball team is doing exceptionally well in recruiting for the next two years.

Agreed, WWP the most likely team to win a title for Stanford this year. Men's gym has had a dominant run, but they are not looking as good this season, with losses to tOSU and Oklahoma. If we can get fully healthy for NCAAs, we're good, but it's a big if. 

If women's golf was pure stroke play, I'd say we're a large favorite. Match play makes for some unpredictability though Walker has been good for us in this format. 

Women's rowing lost some good rowers last season. Texas is still the favorite. 

Hope we win all four and I eat my words!

Women's rowing graduated two rowers from their varsity eight, but they'll get back one rower who stopped out for a year to compete at the Olympics.  Texas returns only two rowers from their varsity eight (the rest were 5th yrs/grad students and seniors), so they're not my favorite this year.  Aside from Stanford, I'd watch out for Princeton, who had the most juniors in their varsity from last year's lineup and lost nobody from their top boat.

When was this supposed to have happened? Even in 2015 at the height of our football power, the Big Ten would not have taken us because it wouldn’t have made sense. I think our only hope would have been to go as USC’s partner but by then we were well on our way to irrelevance.

TV was driving this, and even with a good football team Stanford is not that attractive to TV.

Bernard Muir's alma mater is Brown. Their AD, Jack Hayes, has recently resigned. Maybe he's heading to Brown. The job would be a lot easier, far less pressure.

well I would be surprised if he was actually working much once the interim AD is named other than in an "advisory capacity".  This seems to me more like a move to allow him to get paid through the end of the academic year (either June or Sept) which might make any severance/termination terms less expensive for Stanford.  It could also give him a more graceful offramp to his next gig.  I would be surprised if he had any real decision making authority after today.

As an FYI, I heard from someone within DAPER that it's not all sunshine and rainbows with AL. I was told that he's not listening to the experienced people and relying on advice from football buddies without any sports management experience. 

I know that your overall statement addresses this point, but I can’t help pointing out the irony of the line:
“Andrew Luck is not listening to the experienced people.”

On top of his football knowledge and student athlete experience, his father was an AD, so he grew up getting an insider’s perspective on the financial/fundraising/hiring/managing/political aspects.

Maybe the “experienced people” should be listening to him.

(1) Offer a Top Dollar contract that could entice/lure the 'Best ADs' in the profession like a 7yr $70 Million Dollar Contract !

Then Among the most important characteristics/qualifications for the next AD (in my opinion) are:

(1) Been the AD of a Power4 University whose Football Program has been a perennial Top25 program or Was a Legendary College Football player or College Football Coach at a Power4 University who 'lived, ate, & breathed Football his whole Life !

or

(2) At some point Played or Coached or AD'd in the #1 Football Conference = SEC

So, look to lure any of these following Current ADs:


--Alabama AD = Greg Byrne
--Ole Miss AD = Keith Carter
--Georgia AD = John Brooks

or

Maybe consider these following people who have not been in the 'AD world' but are 'College Football icons' =

--Peyton Manning
--Steve Spurrier

And then they (these 6 AD candidates) or the University can hire a regular 'AD Type person to be their assistant to tackle all the tedious procedural beaurocratic 'day to day' AD stuff' while these 6 AD candidates ensure 'Every stone is turned over to (A) 'Get a Top 10 DollarWise NIL collective' for Football & Mens Basketball & (B) March down to the Admissions office to force them to have the same Freshman-admissions & Transfer-Admissions as NotreDame & Duke for Football & Mens Basketball) These 6men will 'definitely depart from the staid old Stanford-Way' & will Ensure the best chance of Top25 Football & Top25 Mens Basketball !
