The Browns nearly traded for him over the offseason, according to reports: http://www.csnbayarea.com/49ers/report-b...9ers-trade
The really curious part is what would've happened had he left:
Quote:League sources have told CSNBayArea.com that 49ers defensive line coach Jim Tomsula would likely be the teams next coach if Harbaugh were to leave.
The gap between Greg Roman's reputation and the willingness of teams to actually hire him is apparently quite large.
At least in the world of the internet,Roman's rep has taken a nose dive since the 49ers offense has had a similar trajectory to that of Stanford over the last couple years.

A couple of thoughts.
First, on Greg Roman. Greg Roman hasn't really had a trajectory, it's been more of a flat line, the model of consistency. In 2010, the last year of Singletary, the 49ers scored 281 offensive points. Roman was brought on, and in the three years since his offenses have scored 361, 372 and 375 points. What's interesting is the way he did it. Year one, solely Alex Smith at QB. He took 99% of the snaps. Year two, Alex starts nine games and Kaep starts seven games. Each have exactly 218 passing attempts. Year three, Alex gets it all.
Second, on Colin Kaepernick. What's really interesting is that Kaepernick regressed ever so slightly in most of the key metrics. Just slightly, but he regressed in YPA, YPC, Int. Avg, QBR. He improved dramatically in losing fumbles, same number of fumbles with twice as many plays as 2012. His Avg Yards per attempt led the NFL in 2012. Net yards per attempt dropped by about 10%, from 7.27 to 6.52. QB Rating dropped from 98.3 to 91.6. Rushing dropped from 6.6 ypc to 5.7 ypc. Worst passing in the NFL, btw. Does that mean bad QB, bad receivers, bad protection or bad coaching? How much of it is Kaepernick, how much is Harbaugh, how much is Roman, how much is the line?
Third, on Harbaugh and Trent Baalke. For a team to even
consider trading their ridiculously successful head coach is tantamount to admitting that something isn't working. And by all accounts, Harbaugh is the one who nixed it. Was this Baalke firing across his bow? Does he
really want to trade him, or is this positioning for a contract extension? FWLIW, the Niners had their best regular season record in Harbaugh's first season, 13-3 followed by 11-4-1 and 12-4. Roman may have plateaud, but so has Harbaugh.
