The win over Oregon sans one starter and with a shortened bench shows a lot of maturity for a young bunch. Special kudos to Jerome, Williams and Wilson for providing genuine leadership . BUT , and there is always a “but”, I fear that being forever road warriors will take its toll. Being away from training facilities, weight room and “home” takes a toll and it has to effect the team. That and the fact that Pullman is a tough, tough place to get to and the thought of playing back to back games In The other guys gym is daunting.
I agree - not having training facilities for recovery and therapy, etc. as well as training table and staff - let alone being able to sleep in ones bed takes its toll. Have any of you travelled on business for over a month, let alone much longer? I have not.
Actually, being on the road for extended periods can be an advantage. It allows you to focus on the one task that put you there . . . basketball. Back on campus there are unmeasurable distractions. Regarding facilities, I would dare to presume that our staff is making sure that our women are getting everything they need to stay healthy and fit.
To answer your question, I have been on the road competing in a highly physical professional sport for several months consecutively. I would say that my performance did not fall off in relation to time spend away from my home base. However, mine was an individual sport. I would think that in a team sport situation the distractions inherent while on campus would be exponentially more likely to interfere with overall team performance.
