The Gremlin was a small boxed frozen orange treat. Carried by vendors in a dry ice tray it was a great way to cool off. You could hold it to your face and then as it was melting use the hard lid to spoon it out.
One day hundreds of people were sickened at a Cal game and the company discontinued it.

At Memorial, the best part was frisbeeing the lids onto the field. By the end of the game, the area between the playing field and the seating areas was covered with gremlin lids.

The chocolate ice cream cup was called a Malt made by Carnation. I think the Gremlins were real orange juice frozen. Probably defrosted and refrozen at Cal.

Correct on both counts.
The frozen malts were really good. The orange gremlins were just ok (15 cents, as I recall).

I really liked the malts. Didn't care for the gremlins, but as I recall, you could flip the gremlin lids a very long distance.
The Golden State Warriors and the Dallas Mavericks are the #3 and #4 seed meeting in the conference finals.
When was the last time the #1 and #2 seeds were knocked out of the Western Conference final? (I don't know the answer, but I'm really curious). I read that the last time that the #1 seed failed to qualify for both conference finals was 1994.

Both seasons are very long, but I was thinking it is more likely in the NBA. In the NFL, you have 22 starters and three specialists. If there's one major injury, that's a sub-par replacement at 4% of the team. If there's a major injury to an NBA starter, that's 20% of the team. If there's two injuries, that's about 8% of the team. Still manageable. Two injuries to two of the five starters on an NBA team is disaster. So it would seem to me that the NBA would be more susceptible to untimely ousters of first and second round seeded teams.
I was thinking that the Warriors were a good (not great) regular season team in which the putative "Death lineup" had only played together 0.02% of the season, because different players were hurt and out of the lineup at different times. I was enthused because all the starters and key role players -- except GP2, who is a revelation -- were healthy for the playoffs.
