Not long ago I was wondering what had become of Tyrell Terry, as I believe he would have been a senior if he had remained at Stanford.  Per the attached article about his struggle with anxiety, I can't help but think that had he stayed longer, and especially until graduation, he would have been vastly better able to handle the stress of trying to make it in the NBA.  I know that I matured greatly during college, a situation that called for greater psychological demands amidst the provision of support that allowed me to handle them.

I presume you forfeit your scholarship when you go pro.  But universities have a vested interest in seeing pro athletes come back and finish, to improve their graduation rates, so I believe some keep the door open.   Usually pro athletes can more than afford it.

I feel bad that he's suffered mental health problems and that they contributed to derailing his career.  I hope his next steps lead him in a better direction.  

As for the issue of the scholarship.  He stayed in college long enough to drink a cup of coffee and then made 3+ mil playing in the NBA.  When Stanford merely enforced its pre-existing policy that it doesn't keep scholarships open for players who're less than 50% done with college, he bad mouthed the school publicly.  No hard feelings; he was probably going through hard times emotionally.  But he can afford to pay for school if he wants to graduate from Stanford, and I think Stanford made the right call to say no on the scholarship revival.

(I vaguely recall that, in another thread about another ex-Stanford MBB player, someone posted that you had to have played for Stanford a minimum number of years in order for your scholarship to be honored if you come back to finish your degree.)

Pretty sure he will have to pay. IIRC, I read that you have to play at least 2(?) years for your scholarship to be honored when you return. A while ago there were stories about a tweet which seemed to mean Terry resented that. Good to hear now he wants to return anyway.
