This is why I have no interest talking about the POTUS. It's utterly a waste of time, but that doesn't change the fact the College Football season is absolutely being cancelled because the United States government has allowed the country to be overwhelmed by a tiny virus. There is no credible argument to the contrary. If infection rates were low as a result of proper national mitigation efforts, this post wouldn't exist.

I'm not saying we could have totally wiped out the virus, but we absolutely could have been in a position to manage it effectively. There is just far too much evidence across the world to conclude anything else.

Can't just blame China since New Zealand, Germany & South Korea all have managed to overcome the "China" virus to still play sports.   Korea and New Zealand even have fans in the stands and they are both a lot closer to China than the USA.

Brazil, Mexico and the USA all have COVID19 deniers and all three have troubling case and death trends.   So I would blame the USA situation on pandemic deniers and all of those that enable that denier culture to thrive. 

FWIW - I am in the relieved category.   There is no way I would be able to enjoy watching Stanford sports if Stanford had student-athletes testing positive at the rates we have seen in MLB.   If a Stanford player, coach or administrator died just for Stanford to get a share of ESPN's TV revenue that would have redefined guilty pleasure for me.   The postponement is still not official, but I think most college presidents are in my camp.   A few million in TV revenue should not be used to justify putting the health of students at risk.

Don't like that perspective then USA citizens have some action items -
1) Crush the curve
2) Get serious about testing & tracing
3) Control the spread with PPE 

and then perhaps college sports can return.  

Speaking of such things....Next up will be Stanford freshmen on campus in September.   If the same big three above are not happening consistently in the USA then I expect Freshmen will be told to stay home in the next ~3 weeks.   And there too, it won't be a woo-hoo for me, but more of a Thank God type thing.

I so wish for the freshmen to have a proper freshmen year on campus, but it is very obvious that it won't happen.
The guinea pigs in those GA & FL high schools are demonstrating the challenges of schools in the current USA environment.
Stanford is still slated to open after other major universities.   My guess is Stanford can wait to see what happens with colleges and universities opening up in the next few days and then make the call.  

But if the GA public school experience is replicated at colleges and universities then I will be relieved if college students are told to stay home.  The big concern with college openings would be that a university could have deaths in the faculty and staff if asymptomatic students are roaming around.

Actually I blame the world pandemic on its source.  Particularly given that there were warnings years ago that these open air markets with their bat meat were a “ticking time bomb”.  No question what started this pandemic.NONE. So the  “ Wuhan Virus” sounds right to me.  Just like MERS, Hong Kong Flu, Spanish Flu, Ebola.  Naming pandemics for the region in which they emanate has always need the case.  Maher NAILED that one.

There should be enormous world pressure put on China to end these markets. Right?  Seems pretty obvious to me. And China should be hit with massive economic sanctions. But by all means, let’s not go there.  Instead, lets  look at all the f—k ups that have occurred trying to stop or slow this pandemic. It’s kind of like a guy gets shot.  And dies from sepsis in the hospital a week later.  The suit names the Dr and hospital for negligence.  Because you sure as heck aren’t going to get any monetary relief from the guy that is truly to blame.

The United States and its citizens deserve scorn for not adequately protecting its citizens, with 5,000,000 reported infections and over 160,000 reported deaths.

Both countries are terrible in their own rights.

• In March he took to the airwaves to play it down, blame it on his detractors. Remember that? Unity in a crisis? Exactly the opposite.
  
• The mismanagement, the lies ... Kushner in charge of PPE and testing? National test and trace? Not a chance ... Trump just declares himself the best ever, but nothing happens. Except more and more division as he continues to ooze toxin from the bully pulpit. He's so bad that his cultists blame the press for reporting it, as if it's all imagined.
  
• April, May, June, continued attacks on political opponents, misinformation. The enormity of politicizing masks! He did that! Remember his "liberate" tweets promoting armed insurrection in two states. He made masks a political statement. Tulsa? The boondoggles like Kodak? Still no test and trace, no national plan, nothing but venom from our president.
  
• July, August, still no national plan, still no call for unity, more division, more venom from the top. Now it's all about blaming China. He pushes aside experts to take the podium himself, again, deciding to open schools, for example.
  

Is the above some anti-Trump fake news, the mainstream press lying? Hell no. We all saw it happen live on TV for months, and we still see it, every day, again. The press isn't responsible what he says and does and doesn't do. They are the messenger. He and his enablers are responsible. And the result is total failure with the pandemic as  bad today as it's been, and getting worse. Even six months into it. Testing? Test and trace? Masks? Nah, just politics and division.

"President Trump is living rent-free in your head."  
The antipathy is soooo strong that it colors your entire outlook . . . on everything.

Yes we are that incompetent as a nation. First of all, we elected the low-IQ corrupt malignant narcissist. He was clearly all those things from the day he first started running, and he won. However, I think there is much other evidence that we are collectively that incompetent. It was equally obvious in March, or at worst in April, that our State and Local governments had a lot on their plate. Generally, they too have failed, and not because of POTUS. The data FU in California can't be laid at Trump's door. Neither can the fact SCC appears to have no functioning track and trace. The non-compliance of so many in San Mateo County isn't Trump's fault. At this point, anybody who isn't a total idiot knows what is required of them, but many aren't doing it. Yes we are that incompetent as a nation. First of all, we elected the low-IQ corrupt malignant narcissist. He was clearly all those things from the day he first started running, and he won. However, I think there is much other evidence that we are collectively that incompetent. It was equally obvious in March, or at worst in April, that our State and Local governments had a lot on their plate. Generally, they too have failed, and not because of POTUS. The data FU in California can't be laid at Trump's door. Neither can the fact SCC appears to have no functioning track and trace. The non-compliance of so many in San Mateo County isn't Trump's fault. At this point, anybody who isn't a total idiot knows what is required of them, but many aren't doing it. Yep, we ARE the problem to a large extent.

There's a shocker!

A while back, a CNN (IIRC) anchor made a spot-on comment along lines of "Barack Obama is living rent free in your head" and directed it at Trump, who showed a bizarre obsession with his predecessor.  I think that quip can be borrowed and applied to a handful of folks in these parts:  

"President Trump is living rent-free in your head."  
The antipathy is soooo strong that it colors your entire outlook . . . on everything.

But hey, that's just my Pop Psychology 101 take, and is worth about what you paid for it!

OK, I can live with that. The antipathy is that strong. No argument. And yes to several of you who pointed out that 'we' as a nation voted him in (thanks, constitution, for the electoral college, that overvalues rural voters). And yes also to the sharing of the blame with some others ... even, Teejers, your thought ...

Where I get off the train is that it is ALL Trump's fault or even an overwhelming majority.  (But even giving him 50% of the blame ...

... because I don't see myself assigning blame to all parties, like some would-be Solomon. For that matter, that's what Trump does, and I want no part of it.

And I can also see the growth of tribalism over several decades, the rise of the cult of celebrity, the disappearance of common ground and equal time and generalized truth as accepted facts, even the unavoidable perception of decline that was really industrial competition growing back after WWII, all of that contributing to the phenomenon that is Trump.

But I have more faith in this country than (apparently) most of you. I think the failures and local level are also attributable to some extent to the failure of leadership at the top. To cite just one partial example, if Trump had jumped over to masks in April or May, and turned things over to Fauci etc., Dems had already started in with masks, and the whole nation — both sides — would have adopted masks. Trump was the deciding factor that started everything else crumbling. IMO.

At least 5 Big Ten athletes have been found to have Myocarditis and there are more from other conferences. Would be nice to know how many have been tested and how many have shown Myocarditis. But, if this is happening in athletes, what about the rest of the population who is getting infected?

I wish much of the time spent blaming this or that were actually spent constructively finding ways to reduce the spread, help those that are sick or have already been sick, help those for whom this disruption has hit hard economically or educationally or psychologically, or ...

I appreciate those that are working their tail ends off toward the positive goals (whether they be medical workers, government statistics people, the critical workers, the people trying to do case tracing, or so many others).  Unfortunately, there will be mistakes made and there will be those that will blame every misstep on someone or the other.

The vehemence I see on this board is discomforting.  I've thought of dropping off because of the endless repetition of the same opinions we've seen for months.  But, I can't monitor all areas, and some on this board do bring useful information that I might otherwise miss.

Cardboard readers should be ahead of the curve on the myocarditis talk, as its been a topic for a couple weeks now and I mentioned last week in this thread that it should give athletes pause.

Admins know that this is a risk now. If they proceed, and tens or hundreds of athletes get myocarditis, that's a pretty bad look...not to mention the concern about legal liability.
