I was quite disappointed by one aspect of Stanford's performance: Following the mandatory COVID-19 rules.
As I mentioned earlier, a ref appeared not to use an approved face covering. It appeared that he wore a neck gaiter, which is specifically listed as unapproved.
Both teams had players on their bench continually not wearing their masks or had them below their nose or chin. On both benches, the same players were doing this throughout the game. Typcially 2 or 3 players were NOT wearing their mask properly on the bench. Over the whole team, I'd say mask-wearing was somewhere around 90% of the time on the benches.
Some Stanford players would pull their mask down to talk or shout out. This is especially concerning to me. Talking, and especially shouting, multiplies the number of droplets by a factor of 50.
Stanford repeatedly greeted their players coming off the court. There was some contact, but the serious violation is being within 6' except as necessary for competition. "Prohibit unnecessary physical contact such as high fives, handshake lines, and other physical contact with teammates, opposing teams, coaches, umpires, and fans."
One of the bigger risks is the trainer. She's handing out towels and water bottles. She is allowed to be within 6' for such purposes, but she is required to use "appropriate PPE". One only sees her rarely on a live feed, so I wasn't able to understand whether she was changing gloves, etc. Other than the one referee, all non-players followed the rules based on what I could see on the live feed.
Cudos to Missy for requiring the ball to be disinfected after it was caught by the broadcasting staff.
