I view this team as a strong contender for a National Championship.  I think they see themselves as such too.  Therefore, when they don't play up to that potential it's fair to scrutinize their performance IMO.  At any rate, that's what sports boards are all about.  

I love this team and I want the best for them.  I hate to see 11, 15, and 17 point quarters against an unranked 1-6 team.  I am stoked that Ashten went 5-9 from three, but I'm concerned that Hannah went 1-6 and we had 14 turnovers.

It did matter last Sunday, so just excusing away the flaws even in a blowout victory is not the right way to do it as habits have a way to show up in the worst way in a critical situation.

I was thinking about our bigs hitting 3pt shots (specifically Prechtel).  A team like So. Carolina can afford to assign someone to guard Jump all the time.  A really quick guard can do a good job of that.

I don’t blame them.. too many easy games makes life a little dull except for fighting for playing time.  This tournament has a very weak field , even after giving  credit to FGCU for being a good, if unusual team. 

It has to be hard to maintain intensity with zero fear of loss. I’m not worried. Upcoming schedule will get everyone ready for PAC 12 play..

FYI, there was a moving national anthem presentation. Hawaiian woman with a good voice sung the NA first in English and then in Hawaiian . This reminded me of the way New Zealand does it’s national anthem at sporting events: first in .English than in Māori .  Quite moving.

Agree with all you say. Important to add, I think, that no one seems to know why they dont come out or when  it began or when it will end. I wonder if the team knows or whether they don’t care and don’t want to rock the boat. Just curious, i really doubt they intended  any disrespect for the woman singing the NA, for the Hawaiian version of the NA or for the NA itself.  On the other hand ,it is  hard to believe this group of accomplished and intelligent women would engage in symbolism just for the pure heck of it.

Hawaii had hacked and pushed but to no avail (I’m sure that Stanford players are nursing multiple abrasions and bruises today). When translated into a basketball game governed by rules and played on a hardwood court, a different type of game erupts, especially when played by full-framed players, coached to win at all costs.
The Stanford women played through the Hawaiian maul-ball for a half, took their abuses in a game where many fouls were ignored, and seemed to hang it up at halftime when the game was out of reach. And who could blame them? 
The game was all but over when one of the smaller Hawaiian players drilled Cam like a Loggerhead Shrike attacking its prey. Cam was spun 360 degrees, and pushed to the ground face first. I was reminded of the game I saw in this same court four years ago when Anna Wilson was blindsided and driven into the folding chairs on the sidelines. Unlike Anna, who was wheeled on a stretcher to an awaiting ambulance, Cam was able to get up off the floor and continue to play. 
For those fans who were not in attendance, Stanford’s second half play, which may have seemed like a letdown, was probably an exercise in survival.

1) Winning
2) Avoiding injury to key players, then any players.
3) Getting the key players valuable experience
4) Getting everyone into the game

Not having watched the game, I could not know how dangerous the game was becoming.  From what you say, once we had assured ourselves of the win, we dialed it back to avoid the real threat of injury.  Imagine if Brink had gotten a serious concussion like Anna Wilson did on that court four years ago.

It isn't really that odd.  I've seen plenty of teams skip the anthem, leave the court while it is played, over the years.  It may be some sort of protest or a way to avoid a protest.  It may be that we now have a few players who are not US citizens who may feel a bit uncomfortable standing for an anthem that is not theirs.  It may be that the team has changed up how they do things and there is something they wish to do in the locker room at that time that they did earlier in the pre-game.  Whatever the reason, there is nothing inherently wrong with leaving the court, IMO.

"Hawaiʻi Ponoʻī"[a] is the regional anthem of the U.S. state of Hawaii. It previously served as the national anthem of the independent Hawaiian Kingdom during the late 19th century, and has continued to be Hawaii's official anthem ever since annexation by the United States in 1898.
