When Ethan Hunt opens up a book the cover title is "Homer's Odyssey." Not "The Odyssey."
GI's in London sewed on "Phantom" patches. A phantom airborne corps, a number of other phantom corps, some phantom fighting divisions including two airborne divisions. Have all the fighting and phantom WWII patches in my collection. The GI's went to bars, cafes, theaters and rode the tube and buses to try to confuse the Nazi rats into reporting a ton more personnel than we had in country. Coupled with Patton's fake army in the north and a lot of phony cable and phone traffic the Krauts kept 15th Army in Calais tossing stones into the Channel and off the beaches in Normandy.
After Lincoln relieved Hooker he offered the job to Reynolds who replied that he would take it if he could have complete control over the troops. Ole Abe wouldn't agree.
